Oh yes! I saw some of those too - a small flock of them running around on the beach by the water's edge. Funny little things.

I think the swimming birds I saw looked more like shags than cormorants - black all over and long, slender beak - though based on the info on the RSPB site, it seems more likely that they would be cormorants, so I'm hedging my bets.

I think they are more likely to be cormorants. Shags tend to be rather emaller and IIRC have a blue sheen to their feathers, a bit like magpies.
