Making a spring from a coat hanger

Is the wire from a coat hanger of the bent wire type suitable for making a spring?

I think I lost the spring from my Zefal HPX. The spring goes inside the handle and is only needed to hold the pump in the frame, the pump still works without the spring.

+1 you need a wire that's "springy". Coat hangers are malleable and just stay in whatever shape you bend them to. You could make a helix out of one but it wouldn't spring it would just compress and stay in the compressed shape.
