Not too much on an oik as it was a me

Getting towards work ninja cyclist on the road but didn't seem to look like the usual ninja, dressed in cycling gear with a lid and on a decent looking bike and going at a pace but no rear light

Got a bit closer and could see the rear light, it just wasn't on so managed to safely overtake, pull into turning for my work and shout a "your rear lights out mate" as they passed

Judging by the fact he was trying to switch it on as he cycled onwards he had either forgotten or it had packed up

'tis the season for batteries to work for the first two minutes after you leave the house...

Tis why I love my Dyanamo rear light, not only do I not need to worry about batteries but it's also got a whopping great reflector  built in so even if it did fail its still providing visibility

Although I do tend to run a spare lED rear light for peace of mind

That would certainly deter close passes.   :)

Deters them from both a riders and drivers POV

I'll nominate myself for typo of the year

Yes, that's pretty good - but the year is young!

Just to show that it's not only cyclists, today I heard two blokes in a small white lorry shouting something mocking at a runner. I think he was committing the crime of running in the rain, but he seemed more focused on checking his lap times than the shouting.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

Mysterious one today:

"Giz a spin ticket..."   ???

Also "MARRY ME!" from a random (female) student outside the sports centre.

Couldn't tell if they were being sarcastic.

I was proceeding up Watery Lane with an againsterly, when the driver of a Small Red Hatchback stopped up ahead, indicating right to turn into a driveway, and waited far too long for me to pass.  As I came alongside, the driver (a middle-aged woman with two small children in the back, so more motorised moron than oik) decided to give me a lecture about how I should be wearing hi-vis:

"Every time I see you you're..."
"Every time you see me, you've *seen me*"
"That's not the point, you should wear hi-vis"
"I've been riding this for 37000 miles[1], and I've never had a driver who was actually looking fail to see me."
"I don't care, you should wear hi-vis!"
"It's daylight!  You don't have your lights on."
"YOUR[2] MENTAL!"

*I cycle off*
*time passes*
*I remember that I'm wearing my Altura Night Vision jacket*

  ???

[1] Odometer rolled past this on the previous ride.
[2] That's what it sounded like, anyway.

ISTR you have a black Altura Night Vision & a Fluro Yellow thing as well.  If you were wearing the latter you need to report this woman to der bizzies,  she's not safe to be on the roads....

We'd spend hours a day reporting if that were the case.

Yeah, it was the black one.  Barakta inherited the yellow one for size reasons.

The scene: me, out for me first recumbent ride in ages, so struggling with lack of bent legs and not feeling particularly forgiving...

Random BSO rider: "'scuse me. Is that like standing up all the time?"

Me: "No. It's like lying down all the time "

To be fair to RBSOR, after a short conversation it turned out that he was thinking about the ability to push harder on the pedals by bracing against the seat, but didn't phrase it very well.
Life is too important to be taken seriously.

*BEEP!* said the oncoming car, as the driver hauled himself up by the steering wheel and leaned out of the window in order to be better heard by the oncoming cyclist...
"SAUSAGE!" Shouted the driver.

I just boggled and carried on.   ???

I was merely quoting the oik, who sounded as though he might have been speaking Dagenese.
