Saw a few last night then got bored (and it was a bit late). A bright waxing moon didn't help the photography.

There's always next year, Nutty. ;)

In fact, you'll only have to wait until November for the Leonids.

NASA - Leonids 2009 - 17th November is the date to remember.

I saw one. I had the camera pointed upwards at the time, shutter open.

I didn't realise that the velux window was obstructing the view of the camera. No piccie.  >:(

Woke the older two kids (7 and 5), put them in the trailor Tuesday evening, and took them down the lane.  45 minutes of stargazing  later, we had seen 5 or 6 good shooting stars, and a couple of satellites, as well has having a lovely slow conversation.  They were thrilled with their outing.  Last night was a washout round here so I'm glad we took our chance.

Camping in cornwall at a site with its own observatory and resident astronomer. Cloud stayed away enough to see a handful of meteors, jupiter and moons, a binary star or two plus an iridium flare. Magical.

Saw three over the mirror-smooth lake in Tignes.  Didn't realise it was the Perseids at the time so it was even better!
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Hoping for a bit less cloud and rain than we've got at the mo.
No moon tonight, so it could be a good 'un.

Unfortunately we're in Brum atm so the view will not that good.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I'm in the perfect place to see them, open skies all round, almost no light pollution.

Will I be able to see them through a thick layer of dark grey cloud?

At the moment we're just suffering from a heavy rain shower.  I think that when I get in I'll have a nice warm shower.

Erm. It's a nice timelapse... but they could all be planes. And some are clearly planes.

To be fair to you Basil, that's last year's thread that I just accidentally did thread necromancy on.

Sorry.  My mistake, not yours

Not bad here, although there is a big tree in the way of Perseus and a few streetlights.  I actually heard the largest one (a sort of searing, crackling noise) - how close do they have to be for that?

It was an ideal night for us last night; clear, not too hazy with loads of stars and a very fine view of the milky way.  There's little light pollution here either

I went out at about 11:30 for 15 minutes or so, and saw one every 2-3 minutes.  Proper shooting stars.

I'm hoping it is clear tonight. After putting out the signs for tomorrow's time trial I should get a chance to be in the middle of nowhere with the camera. If it is clear enough I might walk up the hill for half an hour to get some nice pics.

It was clear as I went to bed last night, so I watched for a while. Didn't see any big trailey ones, but lots of little flashes.

IIRC you don't want to be looking at Perseus anyway.

They say with lightning, a 5 sencond difference between seeing and hearing is about equivalent to a mile.

Can you gauge how far in a similar way?

I saw several around midnight from the back garden, not an ideal location but looking straight up affords a decent enough patch of dark sky. I didn't stay out all that long. My friend in Bristol reported seeing a really bright one that left a lingering plasma trail at around 1am.
