Camp site locator - Inverness
« on: 26 June, 2011, 07:53:14 pm »
Google is really shite for searching for a camp site in a particular area.   We're looking for a site in or near Inverness for a one night stay on our return in July.   We know that there is a municipal one near the Queens Park stadium but does anybody know if there are any other slightly better prospects within a short radius please?

The nearest one would be Bunchrew, about 5km to the west. Or a Caravan Club site near Culloden Moor, about 10km or so. Though I don't know what they are like.
A bit further away, there's Lovat Bridge. Or Camping and Caravan Club sites at Rosemarkie or Dingwall, each about 20km or so.

Or there's a small 'eco-campsite' near Abriachan, just off the Great Glen Way. About 15km from Inverness, though it will involve a big hill...

Worth checking this site, its very useful: ScottishCamping.com - Directory of all campsites and Caravan Parks in Scotland

The one marked on many OS maps 4 miles along the south side of the loch is no longer there, we went looking.
The municipal one in the town center is OK if you just want somewhere to sleep, all lightweights in one field, can make for some interesting neighbors.
If you're considering wild, there are apparently some nice spots  on the north shore of the Beauly Firth, a couple of miles west of Charlestown. It was recommended by a couple we met, though we didn't stay there.

Bunchrew looks about perfect.   Just found it on the web and called to check that it is not the site that PH mentions above.   The owner is keen for folk to know that he's been there for about fifty years and has no intentions of succumbing to the great housing estate development trend which has taken many other local sites.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.
