Now an obstacle course race would make excellent viewing - would have to be really tough though - like on that Japanese gameshow that Craig Charles does the voiceover for!
No longer responsible for bicycle tyres at Michelin - although I know the guy who is - but will stick around as I am a keen cyclist first and foremost...with a Michelin-biased understanding of tyres!

Fencing would be greatly improved if they fought to first blood.

And an archery/shooting melee - Last Competitor Standing.  Lesser medals could be determined by blood loss/size of wounds.

Bungee rock climbing.

Any event previously tested out in Jeux Sans Frontiers (which was always the true People's Olympics, in my view.) Preferably involving penguin costumes.

Pirates.

Last PE lesson of the term was always pirates. The  gym floor was the sea, touched it and you were out. Everything off the ground, crash mats, benches, climbing frames, ropes, boxes, horses etc, was safe.

1 Person starts of as the pirate, if he touches you you became a pirate. Last person to become a pirate wins.

Awesome game/sport.

I think the correct question should be: If you could remove an event from the olympics...

We had something like that - was great fun.  One of the only PE lessons I can say I actually miss - so much so that I went to Go-Ape again this weekend.  Jumping out of trees, climbing up cargo nets, zip-lines etc, brilliant!

We had a playground game called "Triangle", which was probably the best game ever.  You play it using the triangular shape made at the corner of a large chainlink fence (or tennis nets).  Players take it in turns to throw a tennis ball at the triangle; it must hit the framing or inside the triangle, without bouncing.

The skill is to make it ricochet off the framing at an unpredictable angle so it bounces a very, very long way away and makes it hard for the next player.  If they fail to score a hit without the ball bouncing, they must stand in the triangle until everyone else has had a turn.  This hurts, because everyone *will* aim at your soft parts.

You can also be "out" (i.e. in the triangle) if you are caught directly off the triangle.

There are team variations.

Hand cycling
Triplet / quad racing
S&S coupled tandem racing where you have to stop after ten miles and add a centre section and an extra rider and again after 20 miles
Equestrian Side Saddle classes with marks for style as well as proficiency
Trike racing
hairdressing
Alternative sports eg: Football players to do the syncronised swimming, gymnasts to do the weightlifting, boxers to do the cycling, cyclists to do the rowing, rowers to do the horse riding ;D.

The public school game "soggy biscuit"

Inspired.
I can see it on BBC Breakfast News already. "And here they come. Team GB are on the vinegar strokes already. Bad news for Johnny Foreigner."

God knows what Hazel Irvine's face would be like during the action replays.

Being serious for a moment if I may, I caught the World Championships of a sport that was like a cross between billiards and shove ha'penny on Eurosport the other day - can anyone remind me what it was called? - looked like an ideal potential Olympic sport - a bit of a pub-game that we could rule at! :)

Sounds like Carrom. I used to play it, many, many years ago with the boy next door.

A sport I'd like added is gobbing-into-drains-while-cycling.  And the commuter time trail, with traffic lights, errant pedestrians and white vans all adding to the fun.

I thought we'd ruled out any games/sports that had a World Championships?
