I was a regular late pre gig & late night customer at Liverpool's Everyman Bistro from my late teens to mid 40's when it closed as the theatre was demolished. It was a big, noisy, scruffy, chaotic place where you could get good beer, good food and chat, read a newspaper (Guardian, natch), wait for friends or just fall asleep in the corner.
It was a _special_ place.
What's opened in it's place has all the character of a bad chain restuarant, which isn't surprising when you see who's running it. I've been twice now. It's not somewhere you'd go for an after work pint, and the food, while not _bad_ is bland & overpriced.
The Ev used to be a place to end up after a good night, now it's just a characterless basement that happens to sell food
