We had great weather yesterday - a touch cold and windy in places, but dry with glorious sunshine.
Alas, I didn't get all the way around. The mind and energy were willing, but I got thigh cramps from 80km onwards so had to ride extremely gently. I took a flat route from Theale avoiding the Chiltern lumps to get back to the car.
Once you turned off the main road out of Alton - the lanes were really enjoyable: I was gutted to miss the Chiltern lanes - I know them well and love where the route went going north to Wheatley. But the lumps would have kept triggering cramp and at times I was only covering 8km in an hour.
I was also looking forward to the night slog along the A40 - because the lights of the cars draw the outlines of hills as they roll over the landscape.
It was great to have a chin wag with Neil as we compared steads and say hello to so many Audax cyclists as they came past.
Before the next one, I need to do some stretching, put lumpy miles into the legs and have a play with riding position to see what works best.
