Sivga, Chinese but for the money very good. If you can still find some, Phillips SHP 9500s are supposed to be superb for the price and highly sought after.

Maybe you want to specify if you'd like in ear, on the ear or over the ear?
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

I'm a massive Sennheiser fan but if you want boosted base or anything like that go for something else as they are usually very neutral.
HD559 or HD569 dependant on if you like open or closed back phones are in that price bracket.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I have some 579s which are really good but the bespoke detachable cable annoys me a bit.

I was buying some new headphones recently. I went with AKG K92s - What HiFi rated them highly, and the price has fallen since then.

If £40 is too low (they do sound damn good, mind), there are lots more reviews on WHiFi... they do like the rest of the AKG range, too ;)

I recently bought  myself a pair of Shure SE215 rechargable blue tooth in-ear jobs. Only really use(d) them when travelling to listen to music or watch catch-up shows on plane/train etc. I prefer the in-ear for smallness when travelling which was my main consideration. Having used Shure before I knew they were good quality.

in-ear, on-ear, over-ear?

folding?

long cord or short cord?

Corded or cordless?

Bluetooth?

noise cancelling?

Do you prefer a neutral or bassy sound?

There are plenty of headphones which give good sound quality at a reasonable price but which get passed over because they are 'just headphones' and not 'feature heavy' in the way some folk want these days.

cheers

Thanks, this was useful for me too as I'm looking for a set for silent guitar practice. They should be here today :-)

beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro arrived this morning and on the quick listen I have had so far they are great and so very comfortable, no pressure on the ears at all.

Many thanks to roadrunner.

The DT770s are great, get yourself a DAC and really make them sing :)
