I believe the route is reversed so you'll pass the pub around 0900 - 1030 ish.  :(

Yes the route is the opposite way round to last year (the same way round as the year before).

Will there be anything other than mars bars and bananas at the half way point this year?!

I think I'll take me own lunch.

I intend to take the early start. There are a lot of pubs on the route and I intend to patronise as many as possible  :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

I'm intending to do this. The plan is to ride the Mercian.

I found this on bikely:
Bicycle Path - SEG's 75 at Bikely.com
I think this is last years so you'll need to reverse it.
I still haven't ridden this event and I always thought it was a loop not an elongated figure 8 ish.

Did this last year - lots of fun.  The midnight before - in a club in the West End; 08:30 - starting a 75 miles ride in sub-zero temperatures.   ;D

Yes, it was a cold ride, but it did turn nice.  Quite enjoyed the last two pub stops controls.  ;)

Must check my social calendar and see if I'm free for it this year.
;D  Andrij.  I pronounce you Complete and Utter GIT

One of the SEG members, ChrisW, has kindly generated the route in various GPS formats. They can be found here, Clicky, along with links to an entry form and route sheet in PDF format.

I've totally failed to enter this already. ::-) My Chelmer CC chums are riding it though and I'll be there for the start anyway. I don't know what the exact plans are, but I suspect we'll take the 09/09:30 start (leaving from Chelmsford at 8:00) - which might give me time to enter on the morning!

I bonked bad last year about 3/4's of the way round (rescued by Annie with an emergency spare banana) - must stuff pockets with sweets this time...

There was only the one pub stop - in Pleshey (scene of the incident with the zip). I was constantly looking at the time and thinking - must get on to the next control, otherwise there might well have been more pub stops. This time I'm going to blast it and have one large pub stop at the end of the ride!

I won't be riding this year.

This is a shame...

I'll see how I get on. Last year's was an ordeal, on my Trek single speed. This year I'll be on the Mercian which I reckon should reduce my time a bit, but 75 miles in 7 hours is faster than audax speed. I had very little to spare last year and I hardly stopped.

I'll be travelling by train. I don't mind a swift ale before travelling back to Southend. Which pub, Tokamak?

I don't know Billers that well - could you recommend a good après-ride establishment?

Well, there's the Chequers in the High Street, very convenient if you want to go to church. The Crown and the Railway are very close to the station.

Am wondering about doing this.  I am planning to ride Saturday and not sure how I will feel on Sunday.

I think I had a drunken evening in the Chequers with a bunch of lovely Essex girls once. Somewhere with space for bike storage would be good.

Well, it would be lovely to see you. I'm getting the train from Saarfend. Dead easy: there weren't any trains last year so I had to use the car.

I think bobb was set on doing this one too - and he's not a man to refuse a beer afterwards either. ;)

You seem to be forgetting the pub stop (the name of which escapes me) just on the south side of the A414  :P

I've entered and hope to make it, but I do have a few family comitments at the moment. I will be doing the early start if I do make it. 75 miles in 5.5 hours (or whatever the fast one is) is way beyond my current level of fitness!!!

I agree! If I do it there will definitely be a pub stop at the end of the ride!  And one in the middle.

But it's a Sunday, so I'll be working.  :(
This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional blood sport. It can happen to you. And it can happen again.

I'll have the route and have no problem with doing things twice. If you fancy another go at it when the weather improves, with pubbes... (Easter hols?)
