Chain wear
« on: 21 April, 2008, 01:10:57 pm »
Gears were sticky last week on the commute. Quick clean this weekend and they are almost back to normal. At the same time I got my chain wear tool thing out and noticed it had reached .75  - a new chain was fitted mid Dec. and I've done about 1300 miles since then.

Is this "normal" for a "normal" chain - by that I mean it's a LBS bog standard chain. I've had trouble over the years but have adjusted my riding style after discovering what cross chaining is....

Depends on the weather.

The chain I had on in Jan/Feb lasted 1900 km and was totally shot (well over the 1.0%), there was loads of salt on the roads in those months. The chain I replaced it with has done more than that and is just at the "nicely bedded in" stage.

I did consider the weather - it's been a tough winter/spring with a fair amount of crud on my commute. I'll not worry to much then.
