It's Superbowl Sunday, so a few mates and I will be staying up to watch the game, drink awful American beer (I've got a fridge full of Coors) and eat pizza and pretzels. I've even managed to obtain some Twinkies, although I'm not sure they officially count as food.

I haven't checked, but I think we'll all be supporting the Panthers.

I had to check the credits after spending much of part 1 mumbling "I'm sure I've seen him before".

London Spy ;  Wow!!!

Not sure I've EVER seen telly like this.

Late on this one but it was only a few weeks back that a friend recommended it to me.

I watched episodes 1 and 2 last night and I must say I'm really rather taken. It's got a weirdness to it that marks it out. I realise that's a marmite experience but I personally am a sucker for weird. Of course, it could all end up being a pile of wombat dung (and end up disappointing more than some NCIS shite that I expect no better from) BUT, for the moment, yes, describe me hooked.

If you like weird use 4OD (or whatever it's called now) and watch Utopia.

The Story of China

Michael Wood's multi-part documentary is great viewing if like me your grasp of Chines history is lacking. All episodes so far are still on Iplayer I think.

As an aside where has Michael Wood been for the last couple of decades ? I remember him being on telly loads in the late 80s and early 90s.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

It is.  Can't recommend it enough.  I saw the full 90-minute version (the director's cut  ;D ) at the cinema.  Full of warm, gentle humour and affectionate (self-)mocking, counterpointed by the harshness of the North Pennines in winter.

He did the "History of Britain" didn't he? Ah no - "The Peoples History" in 2012 - digs around Britain. This China one is excellent, I agree.

Sorry, bit late for this...

The People vs O.J. Simpson. Well acted, sharply edited and beautifully photographed. Even though you know how it's going to end.
VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

The history of AC/DC is one of immigrants...going over there, taking their bloody Rock Band jobs.

True, though for a change it wasn't just the Scotsish.  First record company founded by a Schnibble and one half of the production team a Dutchie.

Just watched the first episode of Murder. Very nearly gripping.
It is simpler than it looks.

Just watched the first episode of Murder. Very nearly gripping.

Directed by Birger Larsen, apparently, who directed early episodes of The Killing.  And yet, I thought Murder was godawful, borderline unwatchable.  Hated the format.   A series of single individuals talking to camera and therefore no interplay between characters.  Mrs Thor, OTOH, liked it.
It was a day like any other in Ireland, only it wasn't raining

Crufts, for the awwww, but generally not the breed-judging bits. Enjoying the agility and flyball though.

Crufts, for the awwww, but generally not the breed-judging bits. Enjoying the agility and flyball though.

Do they explain the logistics?  There's been some debate in our household[1] about what happens to all the dog poo at Crufts.  Advanced googling (to filter out *that* video clip) suggests that:

a) Crufts is where people go to exhibit novel ways of dealing with dog poo.
b) Someone has been selectively breeding a special type of worm for the purpose.
c) FORRIN doggists from ABROAD are in the habit of emptying theirs all over the car park.
d) You can tell it's large breeds day, cos it looks like they've been parking Shetland ponies.  Apparently.
e) The whole place stinks of piss, because it's hard to stop dogs from furtively weeing against things.
f) Bags and bins are provided.

I'm imagining someone trundling around on a little tractor, pulling a trailer full of shit, like they do at Glastonbury...

[1] Ideally barakta would ask her colleague who knows about this sort of thing, but she's taken the week off for Crufts.

I guess that Crufts is the leading reason why nobody should ever invent Smell-o-Vision.
