It's an American article, so you'll have to substitute some of our native flora for the ones they suggest.

Rocks, pine cones and (seasonally) snow all work quite well, although river rocks can be a little too smooth and slippery.

a bear meets a rabbit and says to him "do you find shit sticks to your fur?". "yes", replies the rabbit. so the bear picks up the rabbit and wipes his arse with it ;)

I can't believe rocks are much good.  Dock leaves look nice, and a handful of grass probably works.

During childhood, whilst out for long walks involving evacuation, I can personally vouch for the efficacy of grass and dock leaves. Leaf mould works fairly well as well. I recall some 45 or so years ago, my brother and I were examining some enormous and ancient badgers' setts in Norsey Woods (where Watt Tyler and his peasants' revolt was reputed to have started) when I carefully put my left hand in a pile of fox shit. I used leaf mould to remove it, but although visually it looked as though my hand was clean, it was about a week of constant washing with soap and water before the smell finally dissipated.

Any kind of moss is pretty good.

Any kind of moss is pretty good.

During the Coppergate excavations (very damp anerobic conditions leading to vey good organic preservation), one of the finds was a mass of moss, apparently unused for the usual purpose, but just dumped as rubbish.

Closer inspection showed contamination with holly leaves.

One day an archaeologist's going to find a cache of UKC Pink[1] in similar circumstances.
