Setting up my own Spot Gen 3 GPS tracker
« on: 05 July, 2022, 02:06:41 pm »
Hi all, I bought a used GPS tracker (Spot Gen 3) which I hope to use to show my location on the LEL dotwatching site, and to invited email addresses. Does anyone have any experience of using this particular device? I'd welcome any tips or advice on using this device specifically, and more generally on how it might / should work once we get going. Many thanks in advance, Piers

It works well. I have one.   Be aware though that to cancel your annual contract once set up you have to phone a particular number (they don't accept emails or any other form of communication) to cancel at least a month before renewal.  In my experience and reportedly many others, they never answer the number.  The annual cost goes up dramatically every year.

The Garmin offering sounds much better because you can pay for just those months you want and also send messages as opposed to pre-formatted messages but I have no personal experience of the Garmin sat tracker.
