Happy discounted Easter Egg Day!
« on: 17 April, 2022, 08:22:20 am »
Motorway service stations used to be the place, but supermarkets seem to have over-ordered again this year, so worth trying the big ones tomorrow, or your local Co-Op today.  Anything under 75p/100g is good value.  They only taste good when they're cheap.

Often the Cambridgeshire Fens are out of step with the rest of the country - Mrs W had to visit several shops to find Easter eggs yesterday.

Many filling stations are still shut as they have no fuel...

People here are reportedly avoiding supermarket eggs because of the Ferrero salmonella scare.  Small chocolatiers are raking it in.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Like Boxing day used to be discounted turkey day.  The supermarkets are wise to that  now, but you only have to wait a couple more days now.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Some research I saw the other suggested that chocolate egg sales were down as people increasingly realised that the product is poor value and really just a load of carboard and a very small amount of chocolate - and buying a regular bar of chocolate was a far better plan. Cadbury's creme eggs seem to have got even smaller again this year?

[Not sure why it's taken people so long to realise  . . .  and in a different market aren't beauty products for the most part packaging over product?]

All eggs sold out here. I have just treated myself to a decent bar of Cadburys dairy milk.

What a heaven John Menzies in St Andrews used to be on Easter Monday, first day back to school usually, and a local holiday so all the decent shops shut.
Getting 3 easter eggs for 50p made up for the chippy being shut.

They ought to wait a week to let us give eggs to our Orthodox friends, who don't celebrate Easter until next week...

But not the warmongering Russian Orthodox lot, who deserve the surprise in Kinder Surprise.

Sainsbury's had been picked clean by 5pm.  Bastards.  I knew I should have tried Membury services yesterday.

Mr Sainsbury’s House of Toothy Comestibles was bastard busy this arvo.  You'd think the shops had been shut for a fortnight…. Didn’t look for discount eggses though.
