Shimano compatibility - casettes - RD - RH Lever
« on: 17 April, 2022, 05:12:36 pm »
Will the 105 10sp 5700 front shifter work with the RD 591 Deore rear mech?

Also on casettes - I'm looking for 11 or 12 - 34 or 36, but not much in the Shimano or SRAM flavours about.  Are any of the makes that suggest compatibility any better than the others?

I'll keep my eye out for them, frameset not due until June, but just in case.

Had a look on SJS and one reviewer did just that, 10sp 105 shifter, 11-34 cassette and the M591 9 sp rear mech. Tredz have 11-36 HG201 9 speed cassette for £28.

In the days before Shimano made road derailleurs that could (officially) cope with sprockets greater than 28 teeth, you could mix and match road and MTB nine speed shifters, derailleurs and cassettes as they had the same shift ratios. That ended with 10 speed but you could combine 10 sp road shifters with 10 sp MTB cassette (e.g. 11-34) by using a 9 sp MTB rear mech. Which is what I did.

Just re-read that, I'm after 10 sp

Sunrace probably do something

Perhaps this

Or the cheaper MS3.

I used one of these with some swapped cogs courtesy of Miche at one point to get rid of the 11 and add a smaller gap in the middle. I’ve probably still got it somewhere if helpful? I was using a 9 speed slx mech and 10 speed road shifters.
