There are so many song titles, appropriate to audax and cycling once you start to think about them. A current fave of mine, Richard Hawley, has on his current cd:- As the Dawn Breaks, Soldier On, For your lover give some time (ie cancel a ride?...) and on his last one:-Tonight the streets are ours, Lady Solitude, Dark Road (Its a long dark road that I call my own, its a long dark road that I'm cursed to roam...), I'm looking for someone to find me (GPS battery run out?),Our Darkness, The sun refused to shine. Maybe he should take up audax?

Bob Dylan's 2nd LP was the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but on his first he sang an old Blues called Fixin to die (so maybe he started out fixed wheel?) Of Course, Freewheelin' started out with Blowing in the Wind. If the storms get worse then Like a Hurricane (Neil Young) might be an appropriate soundtrack.

John Evans of Jethro Tull has actually ridden quite a lot of Audax and quite a bit of that on fixed wheel. I think he lives in Australia now.

I've always been amused that he never enters brevets less than 600km because his average brevet distance is 590-something km.

Mine is only just over half that but I rode my first ECE in 2014 and I'm uncertain whether it is more appropriate to count it as 2 x 100 or as 1 x 200.

Interesting, not sure I'd ever want to attend an Audax UK Disco though  ;)

Scotty - 'Draw your brakes' is my choice (Reggae / Rock Steady tune from The Harder They Come Soundtrack), it's not actually the title that does it for me, it's the 'Stop That Train, I wanna get on, I can't even hold the back of the train' lyrics that resonate as those faster riders disappear in to the distance.

Towards the end of a ride I always end up with Edwin Starr's '25 Miles' in  my head. It's actually about a guy walking, but it counts the miles down.

Finally, one of the earlier suggestions was Black Box, 'Ride on Time'.....not wishing to sound picky, oh hell, yes I am being picky, but that record is a sample of Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation' and she's actually singing 'Right on Time'.

 Ah Edwin Starr; '25 miles'. This song came into my head at the last control on my first ever audax 200k. The controller signed my card and said "You're ok now you've only 40k left, 25 miles to go to the finish."
So I set off on the last leg singing to my self ; "Come on feet start moving, 25 miles to go now ." Seemed apt at the time.!

I tend to default to The Levellers "Beautiful Day" when out on an audax, especially if the weather is rotten. 

A song that makes me think of 400km events instantly when I hear it is "Bend & Break" by Keane.

Some songs suggest a specific narrative. This one seems to be about a 400 in Kent, he's been dropped early on, possibly a mechanical. His partner has gone on with the main group, and he's now considering using google maps to answer the information control question.

That song might suit the confused state of mind of the tired rider off course - I don't think there are many (if any) rivers that come out on the white cliffs of Dover.  A case of the words written for the sound rather than their sense - like most pop music!

Some songs suggest a specific narrative. This one seems to be about a 400 in Kent, he's been dropped early on, possibly a mechanical. His partner has gone on with the main group, and he's now considering using google maps to answer the information control question.

Jimmy Cliff, and another classic from the great 'The Harder They Come' soundtrack of course, covered by some blokes named after an Uxbridge Post Code apparently.

Whether or not Jimmy Cliff ever went to Dover, I don't know, but there is a fantastic interview with him describing his first visit to England and his disbelief that white people lived in such little houses. I have heard similar stories from many first generation West Indian immigrants. With regard to the reference to Dover, I recently saw some old, post war, West Indian school books in which British lifestyle, British icons and culture were presented in a very quaint way!

That song might suit the confused state of mind of the tired rider off course - I don't think there are many (if any) rivers that come out on the white cliffs of Dover.  A case of the words written for the sound rather than their sense - like most pop music!
The words actually fit the story and, in particular, the character played by Jimmy Cliff in the film. TBH, I'm not sure about the White Cliffs of Dover, but he is wandering around as a fugitive chased by the Police at one point...maybe Jamaica has it's own version? He certainly ends up on the coast as I recall.  ;)

I believe you,  Damon,  but the link is to Keeping the Dream Alive!   However, I enjoyed that, though not without some poignancy at the loss of friends and a bit of a shock at the end when you hove into view, knees first.

The almost universal youtube block on 'Keeping the Dream Alive' has sent me back to mid 70s Philadelphia, with a contemporary twist from 2 mins in. If you can call 'in the style of Chic' contemporary. Designed for dancing around the kitchen to. Over 7 mins, so you might need to pace yourself.
It's in the highest quality, so good for reviewing equipment choices on various 1200+ rides.The little sprocket at bottom right under the picture changes the settings.

This topic has just reminded me of the event I once organised from Thurlby in Lincolnshire.  At the time, LEL used Thurlby Youth Hostel as a control (LEL was a much smaller event in those days!) and there was a whole day between northbound and returning riders, allowing the controllers to go for a ride themselves on the LEL route to Lincoln and back. 

The event was called "The Bluebird 200" simply so that on finishing, we could have a chorus of the Vera Lynn song "Thurlby Bluebird's over".

Good choice.  Used to be one of my favourites to play on my Walkman (that dates it) when I was a runner.
