Yep. But gut feeling is that she intended this.

Fuck.

I've only heard one song by her but that's my first reaction.

I first encountered her voice on her first album, and one song on there, 'Troy', blew me away. The other bit of her work I have, and treasure, is a cooperation with the Afro-Celts.

"Shit" indeed.

Here's 'Troy'

One of my favourites Steph.   I've no booze in the flat and it's hooching down outside, so I'll have to wait & have a good session later in the week with my CD's and a decent bottle.

I loved her first album. Mandinka was the first song of hers I heard and that’s still a favourite but Troy is also great. Extraordinary voice.

It’s bitterly ironic to hear the Taioseach eulogise her like some national icon when she was a victim of much that is wrong in Ireland in her early life and hated the authorities.

Cause of death?

Why do you need to know?

HF has said has much as needs to be said on the matter. Let’s celebrate her life, not speculate on the cause of its passing.

This is the last day of our acquaintance...

This was the regular sound track of our journey from Aberdeen to the West Coast of Scotland, on a Friday night for a weekend of hillwalking etc, back in the day.

All of the above  :'(

She had an amazing voice, and was a fantastic performer. The world is worse for her departure.

Am nearly at the end of my second bottle. Listening to Bruckner and Mahler, who seem to fit. Thinking of seeing her on stage, ugged by Neil Young, and doing my best to remind myself that decent folk outweigh the arseholes.

That famous song of hers is the most powerful piece of music ever.

Yes, I know Prince wrote it. But she owned it.
It is simpler than it looks.

I met her once back in 1994. She was nice. Loved her music from back then, loved what she tried to say afterwards.

Normally celebs dying doesn't affect me much, but this one makes me sad. She deserved better.

I have strong memories of when The The’s Mind Bomb came out in 1989 - my girlfriend of the time and I were both very into it and our favourite track was Kingdom Of Rain, which is a duet with Sinead O’Connor. We played it a lot!

A lesser known one, perhaps, because it’s not one of hers though she totally owns it, like most things she did…
