When we where knippers I can remember them. Anyone else remember them?
Luckily, for me mam and dad, they where pretty sh*te and the house never caught fire and burnt down :o ;D
With retrospective what a dangerous thing they where :-\

They were bloody brilliant, and stunk to high heaven! God knows what noxious substances we breathed in.
I always liked the "wriggling snake" - some nightmare of chemistry that oozed a green stringy thing all over mum's best table.

Burn the house down? You were lucky if they burnt the actual firework down.
Usually the match you used to light them provided more thrills.
The best classroom indoor fireworks were the grey metal pencil sharpeners. Whilst burning feeble little strips of magnesium in chemistry lesson, our chemistry teacher made the mistake of mentioning that pencil sharpeners were made of Aluminium & Magnesium.
1) Take 1 bunsen burner
2) Take as many pencil sharpeners as you can find in the classroom
3) Take care not to look directly at the resultant light

In my thirties I had a spate of boils :sick:, one day one of the horrors on my face 'went off' when I squeezed/pulled it, my wife, after retching, said it looked like an indoor firework.

They were great up until the age of about 6, then my parents could no longer get away with fobbing us off with them.

I was hoping for exciting tales of real fireworks indoors.
The nearest I've seen was in Gaping Gill main chamber, including trying to shoot down the abseiler with penny rockets. In the end, there was so much smoke that we had to crawl all the way back to Bar Pot. Apparently smoke was coming out all of the entrances apart from Main Shaft.

I remember when you could get hand-held outdoor fireworks - complete with wooden handle - that would make H&S blanch these days. Also jumping jacks, which were unpredicatble in the extreme. I once got one down me wellie, but it had just had its last jump luckily.
