Its a crap paper.

And at least they haven't invited comments! You can just imagine the creatures emerging from the slimy depths to vent their spleen :o :sick:only to slink off cursing as they are thwarted :hand:

I don't think so. I think it was used as journalistic shorthand for "he was a decent fellow" [by being sensible and following The Rules]. The trouble is the corollary of that is to imply that not to wear hiviz is somehow being less than an upright citizen.

That's a fair point. The article also describes what the attackers were wearing.
