Title: Rough Diamond- - hydration points
Post by: BlackSheep on 06 July, 2018, 03:46:44 pm
It will be warm tomorrow, and keeping hydrated will be key. From memory the following places will be open when you pass.

Leaving Bushley prompt, there will be shops in Pershore, a couple of service stations about 100m100 metres off route. Tesco at St. Peters - Worcester. Service station on Hylton Road shortly before B-road to Martley. In Martley there is a village shop, Clifton-on-Teme - village shop. Shops in Tenbury (but you're only a couple (or so) km from control by then.) Shop at Shobdon, shops at Eardisley,  toll bridge at Clifford did sell ice creams/drinks, DROVERS CYCLES AT HAY-on-WYE., shops in Talgarth (just off route. Shop at Bwlch on A40 Tjunction. But then it's down hill all the way to THE VILLAGE STORES/CAFE at Talybont-on-Usk.  Service station and shops just off route at Crickhowell, further shops/services at Abergavenny. Shops just off piste at USK. Services and shops on route in Chepstow, services at Severn View services,  chippy in Berkeley sells cold drinks, also shops for early birds (I've always managed to get to the shops there). Control a few km further on. Then next places are likely to be Sainsbury and tesco in Gloucester.

There are too many PHs  to list along route, so these are also options to get water or soft drinks.

After Gloucester the options are likely to be restricted, but you're about 15 km from arrivee at that point. The, BP  service station a few km north of Gloucester does have a water tap on outside wall.

It sure was warm. I consumed just over 8 litres of fluid. A great ride and my first 300, so thank you on many different levels.

My other ‘first’ was tinned rice pudding. Love or hate? I’m still thinking I might have dreamt that bit.

Unfortuantely the hot weather did not bode well for me yesterday.  I was only riding the Bushley 100 event and was drinking plenty and felt fine until the evening.  Very dark brown and smokey coloured urine resulted in a trip to hospital.  The hot weather combined with possible tissue damage has possibly left me with Rhabdomyolysis, although I await blood tests for confirmation.

Crumbs. I hope all is ok and a temporary blip.

My first 30 for 14 years and I was happy to finish before midnight. I was towed around the last stage by a guy called Rodney from Bristol whose rear shifter had failed leaving him with just two gears. Thanks Rod - great to ride with you.

Re. hydration I was ok apart from the stretch between Usk and and the turn at 224 to Chepstow where I happi;y discovered a Budgens convenience store where I re-stocked. I weighed myself before and after the ride and found that I had lost seven pounds!

I learnt a lot from the ride especially the need to get food down me - I only had a packet of crisps and a couple of energy gels after the control in Talybont which left me struggling for the last 20km.
