17776 Football
« on: 19 July, 2021, 01:45:21 pm »
A few years ago I saw this (relatively) obscure piece of internet speculative fiction about American football. It's not really about American football, but anyway.

I think about it often, and have it bookmarked so I can go back and watch it all over again occasionally, which I just did. I always wish they'd do a sequel.

It doesn't matter if you have no interest in American football. It's science fiction dressed up as sports fiction. If you're looking for some distraction, I would recommend giving this a go. It starts deliberately slow and frustrating. Stick with it.

I genuinely think it's one of the best pieces of specfic I've come across, and I read a LOT of speculative fiction. What really gets me in any piece of fiction is attention to detail, and every little thing somehow contributing. 17776 does that. Also, the three space probes are just great. I love JUICE. I love spending time with all three of them, and I don't think you can ask any more from your characters as a writer than for readers to want to spend time with them.

Gawd! Now impatient for 20021.

The characters are great, and I love the way so much is conveyed through standard web page fare deployed with a bit of craft and sensitivity. 9's battery running out!
