TV's Mark Commode was somewhat scathing about the fictitious romantic sub-plot with the fictional RAF pilot, though.

Professor Larrington was afforded a sneak preview by the nice people of Netflix, which was not helped by her intertube connection repeatedly falling over at crucial points in the story.

They're never happy unless they can scathe something. That bit did ring a bit false, though.

Watched Fight Club again the other day. Hadn't realised it was 20 years since I last saw it.  Originally I avoided it, because foolishly I assumed, being a Brad Pitt film, that it was going to be shite, and I remember watching it in stunned disbelief at how good it was. It was just as good watching it again two decades later.

Finally got around to watching Parasite. No doubt we missed a lot of cultural subtleties and references, and the tone was a bit uneven, but enjoyable none the less.

Seven Days in May, a 1964 film about an attempted military coup in the US. Apparently JFK read the book in 1962 and pushed for it to be filmed. It's OK in a 1964-ish way.

If you liked it try Oldboy. Not the remake but the 2003 version

Tenet

Half-way through. So far so good, but the dialogue is fast, every sentence is crucial and the sound is shit.

EDIT: Finished. That was great

Far-fetched nonsense, about as realistic as Star Wars.  I enjoyed it.

Stump the Guesser

A marvellous 20 minute short that looks like a mixture of early Soviet cinema, Jeunet and Caro, and Eraserhead. Cinema of the absurd. Loved it.

It's on MUBI, if you want to watch it. MUBI is a streaming service for arthouse cinema as well as some mainstream stuff.

It reminded me very much of City of Lost Children (which, if you haven't seen it is superb)

2012.  MrsT had never seen it. I warned her that it was a load of bollocks, and afterwards she agreed.

Mad low budget Asian Sci-Fi film, way better than some Hollywood offerings.

^^ Yeah, that was actually quite good!
Reasonable budget, actually of ~$25million, so while still 'low' by Hollywood stnadards, it was sizable by Korean standards.

This week I had a couple of days off so had the chance to catch up on films I know I have seen but can't recollect seeing.

So I watched, in order:
Avengers: Infinity Wars
Avengers: End Game
Kingsman

I feel like I have managed to fill a black hole in my memory now.
I feel like Captain Kirk, on a brand new planet every day, a little like King Kong on top of the Empire State

I've tried to watch that several times, but couldn't stand it for more than 10 minutes.  Maybe it gets better.

Started it last night. So far, so good.

More plot than 80% of hollywood. More depth to the characters.
Might switch to subtitles though, the american accents are bloody annoying.

Yeah, I don't like dubbed films. I'd rather hear the originals.

When France Info broadcasts an interview with someone furrin they overdub it in French but the furrin remains audible. It's not soooo bad when furrin = Korean or such, but when furrin = English my bump of language herniates.

Watched a bit of a Bond film on French TV some time ago.
It's just not right when Sean Connery has a tenor French voice.

I can relate to this. Back when I lived in France, I found the most disconcerting thing about dubbed programmes was when I was familiar with the original - if you know what the person on screen should sound like, it's hard to reconcile that with a different voice.

Saved By The Bell (Sauvés Par Le Gong) was popular over there at the time. Amazingly, they found an actor to dub Screech whose voice was even more annoying than Dustin Diamond.

I confess I can't do subtitles, god knows if I wanted words, I'd read a book. They're full of words.

I can handle dubbing until I notice the lips. It's the same with sync issues. Once you notice they're out of sync you can't unnotice and soon that's the only thing you notice.
