"Twist and shout" by Brian Poole and the Tremeloes was my first single, but I'm completely stumped by the first album, although it may have been a Motown compilation of some sort.

A google shows all (edit- my purchases) to be 1972 - so I was about 11 at the time

I bought the Sparks single from a newspaper shop so maybe it was old. I went to see Showaddywaddy at Newcastle City Hall in 1974 and I reckon it was more likely to be around that time.

Sorry to mislead you all - my first single purchase was Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd - coincidentally after I'd seen it on a New Years Eve programme on TV.
