Fire Alarms

Went off 'by accident' in the middle of a Year 10 Mock Exam, and a Year 11 (real) oral exam, and they're still ringing in another one of the blocks, but the teachers have told us to go inside.
They're going off every couple of weeks, by accident, usually at the end of the 4th lesson. They were supposed to have got them fixed, but they haven't. I think this school is haunted by a fire-alarm ghost.  :-\  ;D

Back in the days when I was a teacher, there was a time when the fire alarm would got set off about once a fortnight. Cue whole school getting evacuated and a fair chunk of the local fire brigade turning up...

Everyone had it down as one of the lads setting them off 'for a laugh'. Until, after nearly two terms of this, the culprit was caught in the act. Turns out it was one of the quiet, wouldn't say boo to a goose, Y9 girls.

Why was she doing it? Liked ogling firemen...

We don't normally have false fire alarms here, but because its coming up to year 11 leaving time, and there are exams going on we have had 2 over the last few weeks.

When I first started working here, we used to get a false alarm about twice a week, until the fire brigade threatened the facilities department with violence, or something.

If you have light beam smoke alarms they can be set off by sunlight.

And helium balloons.

We were getting them at the rate of about one a month, we all complained but they kept on coming. That was until one of the very important bods was interrupted during a very important presentation. He complained and there hasn't been a false alarm in the last 4 months.

We had a "real" alarm the other week.  Followed by a stern email from the facilities manager telling the smokers to stay round the corner away from the back door so their smoke didn't set the alarm off.

Following day the shower (which is just inside said back door) is out of order.  What had really happened is that the extractor fan in there had failed and one of our roadie cyclists had filled the place with steam following his lunchtime ride.  We've not had a second email, though.

Are you sure that the 'real' alarms still work ?
