I didn't watch it, but it seemed to be, in MTV terms, on heavy rotation in our house yesterday.
Phineas and Ferb, the Movie.
If I hear that fucking theme music one more time I shall go all Falling Down on the TV set....
I offer you, Thomas the Tank Engine (along with the Ringo Star narration).
For the full horror you have to imagine having a set of three videos each with about 10 episodes on, and the closing credits of one episode segueing into the opening credits of the next all afternoon...

Whhhaaaat??!! Some great tunes are being including here.
Next someone'll say Crossroads, when in fact the Crossroads theme music has the most beautiful melody ever of all music ever.

To which I would add Barney the freaking paedodinosaur.*

It was also the theme to a Michael Aspel word game on telly the same time.
-
Oh, yeah, that was odd.
I can't at this minute think of any theme music from hell, only theme music from heaven. I must be in a good mood
Perhaps viewing pics of Rachel Riley did it: http://weloverachelriley.blogspot.com/
Ah, there you go: Countdown. That's crap annoying music, if it can be called music.

The original theme tune was called "Chicken Man", which was also the theme tune of Grange Hill. However, while Grange Hill used the original recording, Give Us a Clue used a less dynamic custom arrangement more in keeping with the style of light entertainment programming. In 1982 David Clark took over as producer/director and commissioned an entirely new theme tune, then in 1987 a new vocalised theme tune was used up until the show ended in 1992.
Wiki.
I loved Give Us A Clue. Who can forget the time when Lionel Blair pulled off One Man And His Dog in under thirty seconds?

Roobarb and Custard is, in fact, the theme tune to Grange Hill.
On acid.

Anything in which one of the actors sings the them tune, e.g.

Last of the Summer Wine, because you know it's the prelude to an hour of sheer boredom.

Go on, admit it, how many of you clicked on one of those links? Serves you right. I felt like committing suicide halfway through the uber tedious and twee intro to 'Just Good Friends'. In fact it felt like I was committing suicide just listening to it...
-
Has to be Eastenders. One of the actors decided to put lyrics to the theme music years back. Cant remember her name. Just thinking about it is sending shivers down my spine >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
Anita "Mrs Brian May" Dobson.
-
Hmmmm, when actors sing the theme - considers the example of Sharpe where at least it was a recognised singer from the cast.
I think I'm going to agree with Grange Hill as possibly the nastiest out there.
Though given the devil has all the best tunes are we just thinking about this the wrong way round?
-
Has to be Eastenders.
I usually succeed in switching off before the doof doof, let alone the tune. I feel ill when slow enough to catch a doof.

The singer on Sharpe was not only a recognised singer, but a great one. Saw him live at Shrewsbury.
Now, theme tunes are one thing, but in the old days we used to get musical interludes. Round the Horne had two, and unfortunately only one of them was Rambling Sid Rumpo.
-
No one does theme tune heaven and hell better than Ronnie Hazlehurst.
How could you not fail to appreciate the sublime grooviness of Are You Being Served?
Perfect in every way. Or how about The Fall and Rise of Reggie Perrin. A perfect setup for the 'sit' in sitcom.
Not to mention other greats like The Two Ronnies
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spaVl_EOYVk).
Even the earworm that is Some Mothers Do Have 'Em is pretty groovy after the first 30 seconds are out of the way.
On the other hand he was responsible for hellish monstrosities like Blankety Blank.
and the reggae-lite Sorry.
While Grange Hill is a bit to earwormy for me, Alan Hawkshaw, who composed it, did some mighty fine themes, not least Dave Allen at Large
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZF6aBtGMZY).
And while not a theme, this should have been

Neil Tennant off The Pet Shop Boys says the best pop songs make you a bit sad as well as happy, these are quite..not quite maudlin but a bit sad and yearnful:

This one was a real 80s schools programme with a nice catchy theme tune:

In about 1980 I auditioned for the part of the boy but failed to get it as my acting wasn't up to the high standards of the programme. Grange Hill fans will notice Zammo's girlfriend was perfecting her thespian skills too. I did get a part as an extra in this episode - boy in stripy top playing the fruit machine at 4:50.
