I'm tempted. Might see how I'm going on the longer rides first, though.

I'm in - don't know about sleeping midway strategies, but can someone from last year clue me in??
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

Last year there was a hall in Seascale (about 400km in). It was a sports hall with gym mats on the floor.
Climbs like a sprinter, sprints like a climber!

Anyone got a garmin file?  I'd like to check the timings - a couple of hours works wonders after all.....

I was chatting to Steve about it, he said he only had time for about a half hour kip - and Steve is not slow!

Shame it's not going t'other way around, we'd pass me mam's at about 400 km.

No sleep - I was going to get half an hour on a bench in the park at Hexham, but a) I took a scenic variation and did not have time b) it was a bit chilly and damp and c) the town was packed full of rowdy revellers - might have coincided with Appleby Fair I think.  I think a few people got a short nap at the control in Seascale, I seem to remember gym mats being available in the hall there, but that is not going to be at night if the route is the same as last year.  I crashed out in my sleepy bag (in car), after a pint or two in the Swan With Two Necks at the end.  Did not need rocking I seem to remember. edit - I took 39hrs.

From what I remember most riders turned up in Seascale between about 9 am and 12pm on Sunday.

I slept in a chrch porch between Hexham and Penrith, just before climbing Hartside, for about half an hour. Also in a bus shelter about 5 miles before Penrith for about 10 minutes. I reached Seascale at around midday ish. I know I had about an hour in hand when I left the control, which was my plan so that I had time to walk up Hardknott and Wrynose.
Yo might snatch a few hours sleep if you're quick, but I wouldn't count on a full night of sleep.

Re Sleep stop. Post by organiser last year on page 3 of this post:-
Bad News: I've been unable to secure the facility at Melmerby for the sleep control.
Good News: I've found an alternative about 5-miles down the road (at about 390km) instead. I'm having a look tomorrow and all being well shall secure this for a food/sleep control.

Unfortunately this did not happen, the main problem I believe, was halls booked for the Jubilee weekend. The route details on the calendar page mention Langwathby. This may be a sleep stop.

There's a new control at Langwathby for this year, is this a sleep stop?

I didn't sleep last year, just had a couple of rest stops - an hour or so sat on the floor of the petrol station in Penrith & and another hour or so of monging at Seascale.

Hoping to do this again, was one of my cycling highlights of last year, just need to earn some more brownie points and I'll be entering.....

Mike, I'll post a link to my gpx file when I'm next at my computer (I've moved the file since posting the link upthread)

Great - thanks.

Apparently there's less boring flat bits this year!

Judging by your efforts on Delightful Dales, I should think you'll have plenty of time for a doze somewhere!

I'm planning on starting this event with as little sleep debt as possible, and a sackful of ProPlus.  Carrying some impromtu sleeping kit (foil blanket, that kind of thing) as it is likely to be snatched naps, even if there is a designated sleep stop (I thought the "facilities" show a Z, which means sleep stops on route, but this may be wishful thinking or erroneous).

Not going to be easy, with the motto "time is miles" more relevant to a successful brevet than on many rides, is my anticipation (but should be fun, as it goes over some lovely terrain, if other rides that overlap with the route are anything to go by).

The plan is to do this as the last big training event before LEL.

Must remember to source a smaller inner ring before then.

I suspect using the Pendle to train for LEL is akin to using climbing the Eiger to train for climbing Ben Nevis.

Found that riding Mille Alba last year gave me a big boost of average speed for the next 2 months (might have carried through for longer but an off put paid to that experiment), hoping this will do the same I can get the flatlands out of the way quickly.

gearing is a personal thing,  but to give you an idea, I used a 1:1 bottom gear by fitting a MTB cassette and rear mech to my compact drivetrain. I'd got a 47/34 with a 11/34 cassette.
Just managed to ride up Hardknott on that with 500km in my legs
