No Mynydd Caerffili this year, but we had a good innings - 5 ascents in the last 3 years. The Tumble is a killer climb anyway, if a little desolate at the top.
Announced today and in homage to Flatus, they are going past his house!
So not only is it a Tour of England, but it's a Tour of England that tries as hard as it can to avoid going anywhere near anywhere I've ever lived in my life. Oh well.
I'll be there! I doubt it will have the crazy vibe of Caerffili but it's closer to my house!
I'm starting to think we need a semi-official Stage 6 YACF Corner...
Surfaces to rival Paris Roubaix ............

What chances to get on Chinnor Hill do you reckon? Might just do the 10 min cycle to watch them go near here.

I'm planning on working from home, and will take a (long) late lunch and meander down (up?) to Chinnor Hill
I'm taking Friday off and planning to watch somewhere.
On reflection, the best option for me will be to walk 1/2 a mile down the road and watch the race coming through the narrow bridge under the railway by Berkhamsted station and then pass round Berkhamsted castle.
They went pretty much past my house, and I'm not there :demon: :demon:We waited ages then a load all came along at once. It all happened a bit too quickly. Town looked lovely, mind ... maybe all the little knitted jerseys were a bit, ... oh never mind. Big turnout.
Home from Germany, bike clean, kit sorted (YACF or Swindon RC?who am I kidding, YACF all the way), camera battery charging.
I can't decide where to head though - shall I head to Devizes for the first intermediate sprint, or towards what i think is the "climb" into Wantage?

Apparently intermediate sprints are rarely much to get excited about; I considered the one in Blewbury, but will give it a miss. I thought about the 'climb' into Wantage, and AFAICS it's not much of a climb that will slow them down too much, but it may be OK. My position nearby will see them appearing over the hill, and sweeping passed (quickly) - hopefully separating around a central island in road. At least it's close to work.
I'll be somewhere up chain hill, work permitting.
Any idea what time they're expected? Think I saw 1 o'clock somewhere?

Sometime between 12:30 and 13:00, I think. There's an ETA PDF on the website.
Armed with just an iPhone rather than a proper camera, I figured that video was preferable to trying to take pictures:

I think I must have been stood behind you! I'd cycled from Oxford and also had enough at the top of Chain Hill.
That was pretty humbling! I don't claim to be fast but I checked a couple of segments from yesterday on Strava and Alex Dowsett is about twice as fast as me up and downhill!
who was the yacfette in a KotM jersey on The Beacon? You mean the one who was about 11 ? Near the top, on the right as the riders went up ?

That would have been little Miss hatler.
Was she spotted on the telly ?
KOTM jersey - was she spotted? Come on!Doh ! Sorry, not intentional.
I drove a bit of the route from Stroud to Wotton-under-Edge yesterday. Surfaces to rival Paris Roubaix and a TL controlled single line working section that doesn't look likely to move any time soon on the climb through Horsley. Some tight corners on the steep descent into Wotton might catch out the unwary. Two and a half years later, the Tour has gone but those TLs and roadworks are still there....
The Horsley bit will soon be closed for up to 14 weeks as £0.5m is spent on repairing the land slip.and it's open again.
