Aged 93. The first BBC television news presenter, apparently. Also a very accomplished musician and presenter of classical music.
I found out that my across-the-Road neighbour was a close friend of Richard Baker and he once showed me a photograph of the two of them playing a piano duet.

I'm getting some vague memory of a musical quiz show in which he presented or took part in.
He may [guessing here] even have preceded the first transmission of ITV, those days of only two channels [not many on the forum that would remember that :-)].
RIP

'Face The Music' presented by Joseph Cooper, BBC 2 in the mid 70s.
Also featured in that Morecambe & Wise Xmas show. The 'South Pacific' pastiche.

Once described by Robert Robinson as "the one that begins 'Diddle-diddle-dumpling, my son John'".
Baker always came across as a really decent, friendly bloke. Well, 93 is a good age to reach. I hope he had an easy exit.

I got his autograph at the London Motor Show in 1970. I cannot remember why.

It seems that RB ended his days in a care home. I read somewhere that, at popular request, at 6pm every day he would sit with a collection of newspapers and read out the headlines and articles in That Voice.

I got Ted Moult's (signed) autobiography a while ago. I do know why...

Yes, it's just down the road from me. More of a retirement community than a home. But he was until very recently active in the community there.
