I would be looking to consume food. They finish serving at 9. Will your route allow for such idiosyncracies? Or should I perhaps try to arrive early in Witham and eat there?

My route is : HERE .  Unfortunately I couldn't find any bridleways or mud and there are a couple of short sections of A-road as I thought it might be worth keeping out of Halstead.

Wow, I would have thought we'd be there before 9pm but it will be close and there is little room for unforeseen eventualities so it might be worth having a foodie Plan B.

What I'll probably do is get a slightly earlier train and test The Dolphin, about which some have waxed lyrical.

Perhaps you might drop in as you go past? We have the means of textual communication.

Right oh, we'll pop by The Dolphin.  I've heard it's good as well but have not tried it yet.  I will text you when we set off from Witham.

Wow, I might meet you there rather than riding all the way down to Witham. Do you have a rough time you think you might be there? I'm thinking of driving to Castle Hedingham and riding down, y'see.

Train gets to Witham at 18.41. 7 or so miles to Dolphin pub... I'd aim for 7.15, but it would probably be more like 7.30.

I'm up for a Wednesday ride - I'll go straight to C. Hedingham, though. See you all at the 'Bell'  then.

If England are rubbish I may set out earlier and thus could make my way further towards Witham. Wow, could you send me a GPX of your route from Witham to the Dolphin so I make sure I bump into you going the other way, if I end up doing that.

Looking like super weather for this - at least 22C at the start, a minimum of 18C into the early hours of the morning and a gentle 6mph breeze at our backs on the way to Castle Hedingham.  Sunset at 21:20.

Only blemish is that although I've lugged my heavy D-lock all the way into work with me, I've managed to leave my keys at home this morning.  :-[

Would you like me to bring extra bondage gear with me to compensate?

If you're at home today, I could see if mrs_o has a window to drop my keys round to yours, I guess.  Or I could nip out at lunchtime and buy a cheapy deterrent lock. (Or nip back to my house and pick them up before we set off to the pub...).

I could just fold the bike and either a) take it into the pub or b) park it in a skip/bush and hope it's mistaken for a dead BSO.

I am at home so Mrs O is welcome to drop round.  But fear not, my lock is big enough to cope with both bikes.

I've got two locks, too, and will be putting my trike straight in the car at Castle Hedingham so both would be available there. I'll be using one/both of them at the Dolphin.

I think I went almost two whole days in Germany without locking up the trike at all. Most of the time I only locked it as I had the locks anyway and thought I might as well use 'em. It's a bit different in Good Old Blighty though.

Also, if/when England get knocked out of the World Cup, do I need to remove my England flag straight away from the trike? I'd have to find where I've put the orange one. And, of course, I'd still be retaining the German flag on it...

I'd fly the England flag at half mast.  You might as well do that now.

To whom it may concern:

In the light of this evening's weather forecast I have decided to wear sandals without socks.

Thank you.

Tonight's ride home will be in stark contrast to last Sunday morning's ride to Stonehenge.

For one thing, our house isn't 5000 years old.

Would you like company on the train and the ride home?
