Alliterative placename clusters
« on: 18 January, 2019, 11:02:17 am »
On a recent ride I noticed Hertfordshire has Hertford, Hitchin, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield, plus Harlow just over the border.

On the North Downs there are Warlingham, Woldingham and Whyteleafe, Westerham and (maybe) West Wickham.

Going down the A2 out of London there are Blackheath, Blackfen, Blendon, Bexleyheath, Bexley, and nearby Barnehurst and Belvedere.

Are there any more?

Doesn't really work when you live in West Wales and the town name begins with Llan.......   ;)
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

One of my favourite routes for a ride from York goes through:

Whixley, Walshford, Wetherby, Walton and Wighill...

...in that order (or the other way, if I decide to go clockwise for a change!  :P )

Without listing them, there seems to be many places in Northants that begin with H.
I first noticed this in 1990, when doing the routes for the Birthday Rides randonées.
My favourite one was Horninghold!

Our last tandem ride of our points chase in 2013 took us through Litcham, Flitcham and Hitcham.

Horninghold is in Leicestershire!

It is at the top of Knob Hill.
