There are three of us coming from work, including the gonzo Mr Ibrahim who is going to ride all the way from Swindon.  I did that in 2010 but I had mattc and Dr Bru for company on the first leg, and it was summer.

Then you had an easy ride to London 'cos you were waiting for me at the top of every hill  ;D.

Currently, the ride looks to be dry and vaguely warm.  It's far too early to believe forecasts, though.

I've quite enjoyed these rides in the past.
Even the one where, whilst descending at ridiculous speeds into High Wycombe, the slipstream snatched the sunnies from my head and Feline, who was on my wheel, crunched over them.
There was no point in stopping to retrieve the remains.
On this occasion I have a previous in Whitstable.

Hey r-r.   :)

Roger's MilerMeter track uploaded to ridewithgps:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28749036  Just with the exit of Beaconsfield services edited to remain on-road.

Apart from Cryers Hill, and using New College & Queen's lane in Oxford, there a couple of very minor variations compared to 2014, e.g. near Chalfont St Peter: using Nicol Rd instead of Grove Ln & Gold Hill, and nr. Ruislip Common, at the bottom of Fine Bush Ln... edit.

I remember short sleeves  until after 4am.

Which contrasts nicely with the experience of sno.
It is simpler than it looks.

Yes, Storm Callum is coming in.  50% chance of rain and a gusty headwind.  I'll review at lunchtime tomorrow and make a decision before anyone sets out.

Currently hissing it down in Swindon.  May clear later but wind will be a challenge, since it's a pure southerly (on our front quarter for most of the ride) and not the usual westerly.  Mr Ibrahim has dropped out.  What do people think, and what's the earliest that anyone is thinking of setting out for Oxford?

Metoffice rainfall radar forecast suggests we would possibly miss the rain.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/map/gcpn7mp10#?zoom=9&lat=51.54&lon=-0.61&map=Rainfall&fcTime=1539356400
Wind seems to be: 15-22mph, gusting 35-40mph; southerly.  Yes, challenging.
Temp: 'feels like' 14-16C

Willing to give it a go if that's the decision, but no worries at all if not.  I wouldn't need to set off for Oxford station, on bike, until ~11pm tonight, so I can just go with whatever is decided.   Re. rider number, is it looking like being 'quorate'?

It's been pretty appalling in Middle Earth.  Horrible gusting wind with on and off bonus horizontal rain.  Sort of weather that makes you check the trains are still running.

I've got mild lurgy that doesn't put me in a mood for heroics.  Will see how things develop and make a decision later.

It's drying up here but a gale has blown up.  The LHT is outside on a workstand and I'm not sure it's going to stay upright.

Metoffice has gust strength around here now as ~46mph, and tonight potentially only decreasing by 5-10mph, still fairly wild I suppose.

Ok, I think we'd better call it off.  Kim - hope you didn't spend much on train tickets. There will be debris and possibly trees down (it's largely wooded between Chinnor and West Hyde). We're down to 4 riders now, probably in light of the conditions.  We'll try again in late March or April.

Typical - the first few days of this week were epic for riding  :'(

Sorry you've had to cancel.

I was no longer sure I could afford to be up and out at audax o'clock to meet you for breakfast, so at least the decision has been taken out of my hands.

My cheap-as-chips London-Mordor ticket is a write off, but I've been able to change the date on my 11 quid Mordor-Oxford one to a date in a couple of weeks time at zero cost.  If the weather's decent I could hop on a train and ride back or something.

Rain's died down here, but the wheelie bins are rowdy and I just saw a shitehawk flying backwards.

Aw, shame - was looking forward to it, but yeah, it's looking a bit over the top tonight. I'll just have to eat the millionaires crunchies that I got for on the way by myself.
