That's an intriguing coincidence. On 14th I heard & saw my first skylark of the season. It was just before the Fosse Way by the road from Offchurch to Long Itchington.
A bit after Long Itchington I saw a couple of cock yellowhammers in a (hedge level) aerial dispute, with a lbj, presumed to be a hen yellow bunting, following at a safe distance. No songs yet, though.

First chaffinch song today. As ever, it was not the confident clear song of proper spring, but unmistakeable nevertheless.  It brightened a damp and dismal day ;).

I am pleased to be able to report that the honey bees that took up residence in the cavity wall/roofspace of an old bungalow at Priory Park have survived yet another winter and were out foraging this morning. I can't remember how many years ago it was that I first noticed these, but I think it may be as many as 10. Could this be a good advertisement for leaving bees to themselves and beekeepers not opening the roof every so often to steal honey/cull queen cells/feed sugar syrup/lots of other interesting reasons for looking into beehives?

Lambs out in the fields, which I heard bleating before I saw them, and lots of tall Daffs in the verges ( as opposed to the little early ones ) in Warks today.... well it is balmy down there.

My damson tree, which has been an upright collection of sticks since losing it's leaves last December, was covered in blossom this morning

I saw a tree in flower in Churchill Gardens this morning. I am pretty sure, from the pattern on the bark, that it was a type of cherry.

I also saw a goldcrest. I heard it first, as usual, but they are so tiny and are often high in the branches of large conifers and the like that they are very hard to see. This one was in a yew, and not that high up.

The ground must be warming up. The camp is sprouting a marvellous crop of mole hills

This morning in Priory Park. There was a greater spotted woodpecker drumming gently to itself at the time.

I saw the first true sign of spring yesterday afternoon. There was a Frost's Garden Centre flyer on the mat when I got home.

A wasp in my computer room. David had one in his office yesterday. Suspect there's a nest in the loft.

I would think it highly unlikely that a wasps' nest is sufficiently advanced to have been able to produce workers at this stage. It's only as the weather warms up that the queens (the only wasps that overwinter) get started on the nest-building and egg-laying programme.

http://www.waspbane.com/?page_id=124 gives a very good account of the life cycle of the wasp.

Thanks Wow! David saw a  wasp in the bathroom later. As we seldom have the bathroom door open, I suspect it's not the same wasp but cannot investigate.

My mirabelle plum tree is now in full blossom. Next door's peach tree blossom  is out.

Await aaple and Victoria plum trees.

Rose bushes are sprouting.
