Not your usual star shots.
There is a pipe band thing tomorrow in Dundee. As a welcome the army decided to cast the worlds largest saltire by getting a couple of searchlight batteries either site of the mouth of the Tay.
2 billion candlepower and a Saltire a mile across.
So I thought I'd get a nice shot from the top of Dundee Law. I was wrong, it wasn't bright enough.
High tail it to Stannergate. Tromp across the beach (OK, slippery pebbles covered in weed.)
Get a passable shot - couple of minutes exposure. Looks OK. Still a bit of a problem with haze making the focus hard.
Head towards the Ferry. Stop off at the beach and get a pic with the Lifeboat pier in. The Saltire is looking really squint by now.
I'm now running the half mile along the prom to the harbour as the lights are due to be switched off any moment..
Climb down the iron ladders fixed to the walls of the harbour to get a pic of the castle with the Saltire. Standing ankle deep in a rising tide, trying to focus and shoot with a camera a foot above the water.
Wide shots were difficult as there was a lot of flare off the street lighting.
Reckon I got it though.
A good night's snapping.
