No Quarter: Page & Plant Unledded

Spur of the moment, supermarket purchase - a CD by Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - a mixture of Led Zep tracks and new stuff - cheap.

I put it on while doing some cooking.

First 2 tracks are OK-ish.
Track 3 is the title track - 'No Quarter'.

Led Zep's live album 'The Song Remains the Same' has the definitive performance of http://www.youtube.com/v/FgHSk91RhL8&rel=1. Unfortunately the song has not remained the same, and I would have rather have stuffed the chillies I was chopping in my ears than keep listening to the end of the track >:(

The other few Led Zep tracks were...

...recognizable (probably the most complementary term I can think of)

The rest of the CD - Moroccan themed mush mostly.

Not exactly the best CD in my collection. :demon:

That will be Percy. He doesn't like being his own tribute band. Hence no straight covers of the Led Zep back catalogue if he can possibly help it. I think this is a good thing even if I don't always like the results as much as the originals, at least it's interesting. I get the felling Mr Page would be quite happy trying to recreate a Led Zep gig circa 1975 every night though.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

On first hearing I held it to be bobbins of the very worstest sort, but, like moss, it has grown on me.

I saw them on that tour. Good gig but I wasn't interested enough to buy the CD. The resent Plant one with Alison Krous however was very good.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I thought the version of Gallows Pole was good.

I think I have that in my collection. I love the version of Kashmir on it.

Completely off topic and very different version of Kashmir...

Now what would be interesting would have been a duet with Plant.....

I thought that was OK. She had a really good voice pitty she died so young.

Never said it was good.... but then I don't like Alison Krauss as a solo artist either but did like some of the Plant / Krauss duets.

However the potential for a duet with her voice as a contrast to Plant's would have had a lot of potential.

+1 There are a few tracks on this album that I rate more highly than the Led Zep original versions.

Damn it, Monsieur le Mayor, you have it absolutely right. I love it now... :smug:
