There's a bloody great ripple / bubble in my kitchen flooring. It's been there for a while but it seems to be getting worse recently. I haven't moved any furniture over it, in fact all I do is hoover it (is that the reason?) and occasionally mop it.
I've had a quick google but the repairs seem to either entail running an iron over it (presumably to melt glue) or cutting a slice in it and injecting underneath with glue. I don't think it was glued down when it was installed, just sealed round the edges.
Anyhoo, anyone any experience?
-
Can you push it sideways and flap the edge / hide it?
-
Put a table over it or, if really don't like that idea, hire an elephant.

You could wash the car, too.

Might just be worth waiting to see if warming temps over the coming season removes or exacerbates it, if you can wait that long. Could be some trapped moisture/vapour? Is there direct sunlight on the floor from a local window? Otherwise may be preferable to pay a floorlayer to relay fully bonded if feasible, rather than cut or puncture the vinyl.
-
Can't put furniture over it, or an heffalump for that matter. I'm not planning on doing anything myself, I'll just make a hash of it.
Just confused as to why it would happen.
-
If it's not glued down, can you try removing the edge sealant and just rolling it back to the problem area and then rolling it back down flat again?
I've done similar here.
-
Possibly, but it's located in a bit of a tricky place wrt 'sticky out bits'. I shall take a photie later to illustrate.

A lack of elephants, I strongly suspect.

I reckon my downstairs neighbour would object to an heffalump through his ceiling, not withstanding it getting in the way of our oven...

The blue line is where the ripple is. As you can see in that general area it goes under the fridge freezer and then round those supports that stick out from the plinth.

Maybe an elephant sliding to the fridge in the night, so that footsteps don't wake the Pingus?
Or...
My guess would be either it was a bit loose already and the ripple has moved to there, or a floorboard underneath has shifted slightly.

Best check the butter.

So I got John Lewis out to have a look at it. The inspector said that because it's been there a while the vinyl might have memory and never be completely flat now. There's another less obvious ripple near that one across the width of the floor, and another in front of the washing machine.
The inspector said that for the sake of a £95 call out fee he'd be inclined to see if they can re-fit it.
It's not the money I'm worried about, it's the major hassle of moving the F/freezer and the world's heaviest washing machine (Miele), if I end up having to do that twice I'll be well hacked off.
I could of course just get them to fit a new sheet of vinyl, but there's no guarantee the same thing won't happen to that and I'll still have to move everything a 2nd time.
I then thought about LVT like Karndean/Amtico but they seem very thin and I'm not convinced how well they will cope with the flexibilty of a wooden floor underneath (it's been screeded but it squeaks).
No idea what to do ???
-
Pippa OTP had Amtico flooring fitted by JLP.
I wouldn't say that the procedure went well.
I'm sure that if you give her a shout, she'll tell you the details.

Screeded wooden floor?

Screeded wooden floor?
Modern build - so unlikely to be a wooden floor - didn't stop it erring into switchback territory......

Screeded wooden floor?
Mine is, on the first floor.
-
Do you mean a boarded timber floor with a self levelling screed applied to the board?
-
No, I mean floorboards with ply (or something) on top
