We (Bromptonites) are doing quite well in the TfL cycling challenge. We've had a Dr Bike session. Moves are afoot to finally get the Bike to Work scheme up and running, and there is definite progress towards new showers!

Nothing specifically for this week though.

Fareham doing bugger all as far as I can tell, just looked on web - nuffin. Only found about the Gosport ferry being free from this thread so will give that a go tomorrow.

That said our work landlords have excellant bike facilities and my company after much hassling have taken up the cycle to work scheme. So I will reward myself a breakfast tomorrow  as I have cycled to work now for 18 months and it has rewarded me with a lower BP and better fitness so time for a fry up  ;)

This morning I attended the Spokes Bike Breakfast at the City Chambers, mainly to take advantage of the free chain clean & lube from the Bike Co-op. Breakfast was bacon roll, roll & sausage, scrambled egg roll or roll & veggie sausage. Except when I said "what is there that's not meat?" I was told just egg so I was unaware of the veggie sausage option. It's quite hard to hold pannier in one hand and open and apply packet of brown sauce to scrambled egg roll with the other, so I do apologise for the amount of egg now adorning the quadrangle outside the City Chambers.

It was very very very busy, despite the rain. Cyclists will clearly do anything for a free breakfast and lube. I stayed to listen to the speeches which can be summed up as

Gordon MacKenzie transport convenor - we're going to improve and increase cycling in Edinburgh but I'm not going to tell you how, possibly because I'm talking nonsense and we're just going to say we're going to do it but not actually do it
Paul Edie health and social care bloke - cycling prevents people getting fat and ill so we should do more of it
Steve Burgess green councillor on transport committee - we'll be announcing the cooncil's new cycling strategy soon

I was schmoozed by a Tory councillor which was a bit disconcerting at that hour of the morning. Got some stickers and leaflets to put in reception at work, a cheap nylon rucksack from EBC containing a bidon, some leaflets and a useful multi-tool, and turned down the offer of free Spokes maps from Euan as I already have them. Met Ariadne and a couple of other people I know. There were lots of recumbents, lots of parents with kids in trailers and lots and lots and lots of Revolution brand bikes - the bike to work scheme has obviously been well used!

Nutty, I got you a little present but I'll need your home address to post it to you.

There used to be a free breakie (coffee anna bun) in Victoria Square, Brum for years.  Then when Labour lost over all control to the tories a few years ago, it was axed.
The quote was,  "Can't really see the point of it"

Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I did a Dr. Bike in Ealing today, 20 or so bikes in 6 hours for 3 instructors to fettle.

Last year I did a Dr. Bike there outside the bike week season and we had banners, music, bikes you could ride etc and we were very busy.

Today it was just us, saying "free bike check" to cyclist that went by must have sounded like "get off your bike" or "we'll nick your bike" to them.

Cyclist's breakfast this morning. Free bacon sarnie and decent coffee. And bike porn to take away.
I am nothing and should be everything

EBC's 100 freebies had all gone by about 8.15.

Paul Edie health and social care bloke (wearing sensible mac) - cycling prevents people getting fat and ill so we should do more of it shaved legs - yay!!, lycra - yay!!, Heath-Robinson - yay!!  Which struck me as a bit odd ...

Sorry I missed you, Kirst.  I managed a blether with LaidBack and a quick go on his recumbent trike ...

Today I did a very basic session at lunch on pre-ride checks and get-you-home repairs (or what I've learned in 7 years commuting in Embra).  Croissants and juice for cyclists tomorrow.

I completely forgot about bike week, failed to organise anything,  :-[ and consequently am having a lovely peaceful week with not green-inkers ranting about the cycle facilities (presence or lack thereof) to me. 8)

It's the bestest bike week evah! I must do this more often!
