In search of a 400 and a 600 perm from London
« on: 09 May, 2008, 09:44:37 pm »
Hello all,

I have taken a bit of a rest from Audaxing of late, and missed the 400 and 600 I planned to do.

Can anyone suggest a 400 and a 600 perm that start within 50k of North London?

cheers,

Harry

Ride out to Mildenhall and ride the Mildenhall 300km as  a DIY 400km.

If you can get a train to Manningtree there is the 400 at Brantham mid June

Or Dun Run and back again
Any fool can admire a mountain.  It takes real discernment to appreciate the fens.

I m quite up for the Dun Run and back again. Does anyone know what controls I should submit to Andy?

Dunwich from Central London is 370km return (and that's not even the shortest route) so you might have to re-route a bit or extend the finish.

Fidgetbuzz rode the route as a 400 perm on last year's Blue Moon Ride (ie, not the Dun Run itself). From memory, the controls were something like:

Harford Bridge (Keswick, Norwich)
Cherry Hinton
(Broxbourne?)
Hackney
Sudbury
Dunwich

Doubtless, over-distance as most perms are. I'm sure he'll be along sometime to confirm/deny said list.

You could do a 600 and a 400 combined, by way of a 1000k, namely, the Great Eastern. If it is still on the perms list. It'll probably be run by Pete Gifford.

Or on the Manningtree option it's also a perm, if you can't make that weekend.  (Am currently contemplating this myself.)

400km from North London would get you to Bodmin Parkway Station where you could get a train back direct back to Paddington.

If it were made into a proper Perm there'd be multiple AAA points up for grabs too as it's somewhere between 6000m and 7000m of climbing. :)

I may be on the lookout for a 400 perm later on this year since I DNF'd my DIY ride down to Cornwall. If all goes well on the Border Raid 600 and Flattest Possible DIY 600 I'd need to do another 400 for a second SR.

Have you submited the route for the DIY 600 yet Greenbank? Has it been approved?

Yup, I'll post details in the appropriate thread in the next couple of days rather than clogging up this one.
