Transfer options from London to Amersham
« on: 04 April, 2008, 02:30:13 pm »
I'm staying with folks near Amersham prior to the Severn Across Audax on 3 May.

I'll be travelling down to London Liverpoo Street on the Friday - arriving about 18:30.

What does the the panel think I should do next? I could ride from there to Amersham I guess, though this would burn some precious beans I might need next day.

Presumably I can take the Metropolitan line to Amersham. How much of this line is it OK to take a bike on?

Or I could take the over ground to Amersham; from where?

You can take the bike all the way, most of that line is overground anyway.

Train to Amersham goes from Marylebone and would be faster as there are fewer stops.

Personally I'd cycle from Liverpoo St to Marylebone and get the train. 10 minutes quicker on the train.

Be careful to check for cycle restrictions (usually ok after 7pm).

Def take the train from Marylebone

Chiltern Railways are OK with bikes, though check for engineering works!

Yeah, ok after 19.00

But it's a pain in the butt on the Met Line stock.
You can't really leave the bike anywhere without it blocking either the doors (which open on different sides every few stations) or blocking the aisles/seats.
The only place is one of the carriages with a single door. But you'll have to sit on one of the little pull down seats so you can hold onto the bike. It will fall over if you leave it there alone.
Getting in and out of that single door isn't easy with a bike and sitting on those little seats for 70 minutes will be a real pain in the butt.

Marylebone all day long.

Chiltern Cycle policy is ok to travel after 19:30.

Trains to Amersham (Aylesbury) are 19:27  :-\  19:57, 20:27

Takes 35 mins
