The French squad was *miles* behind. What went wrong for them? Well done GB.

They've stayed at the same level. GB have improved.

I guess you're right (after the WC).

So then, do we think that anything could have gone better today?

1st gold (which we weren't predicted to win; perhaps the estimates were conservative!)
World record in 1st timed event
1&2 in Womens
1&5 in Mens when one of the guys was really just there as preparation!

They could have done it on steel bikes.

Haha! What's better than gold? Gold AND Silver!

I only caught the Kerin after getting back from a ride, but that track team is unstoppable! Great ride from Chris Newton to get bronze in the points race too!

edit: And now I find out that Steven Burke won a bronze too!

4 events so far, 3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes!  ;D

And the same result is already guaranteed in the women's individual pursuit tomorrow, with Romero and Houvenaghel contesting the final.

It occured to me that we've now won 50% of the medals on offer in track cycling so far (win every event and you only get 33%!)

Also, we've medalled in 150% of the track events we've entered ie. averaging 1.5 medals per event!

The track cycling medal table is comical!

An absolutely awesome performance by our track cyclists today.

The Real McHoy  what a team eh, performance of the day has to be Stephen Burke, to perform personal best after personal best to gain the Bronze.

Also worth a mention is swimmer Rebecca Adlington

If Chris Hoy gets any bigger, he's going to explode! He has a seriously impressive physique.

He reminds me of the dad in The Incredibles, except with big legs too :o

The track performances have been awesome, I watched the men's team pursuit guys beating their own world record this morning and qualifying first for the final (overtaking the Russian team in the process), but the standard has been so high that I haven't even seen it mentioned on the TV coverage since!

I think it was Craig McLean or it may have been Hoy who painted himself green and did some laps in Manc as the Incredible Hulk a few years ago

It was Craig. I was there. He's a good sport and a really nice guy. A mean drummer too.

I always like McLean, I liked the American Marty Nothstein too, huge huge thighs.

Yes, Marty Nothstein was ace. I remember him riding against Darryn Hill (Aus) at the Worlds several years ago. They really hated each other and were all over the track. We were all expecting a bloodbath. MN was a fantastic keirin rider. Totally fearless.

Just noticed, Nothstein has the same initials as me, "MN was a fantastic keirin rider", I thought you were talking about me !! (I wish)

got one eye on the BBC Olympic site whilst at work. Pendleton is absolutely storming! As is Hoy and the rest of the GB team! Great stuff...

Are we guaranteed gold and silver in the men's individual sprint now as well? Or is there another heat?

Even if it's the latter, Hoy and Kenny are clearly going to take gold and silver anyway.

Semi-finals tomorrow. The two winners race for Gold/Silver and the two losers for bronze.

So no guarantees yet.

I believe we've already got as many GOlds as we did in 2000 & 2004.

So although we're NEVER going to stay in 3rd place overall, we should be way up on previous years.

And almost entirely down to British Cycling and those nice Lottery people.

(Could be tricky improving in 2012 !)

Best since 1920 now, and if Chris, Vicky and Shanaze win, along with the chap in the Laser, we'll have the second highest haul ever. Brad and Mark could well add to that, and there are some possibilities in athletics and kayak.

Of seven golds available in track cycling events so far, only two have not gone to Britain.

If only they'd dropped the points race instead of the kilo...
