Title: [HAMR] womens 1000km record (and others ...)
Post by: mattc on 18 January, 2016, 07:28:11 pm
Rather than divert the womens year record thread, I thought I'd post this for seperate discussion; its more of an "athletic" challenge than the 80mpd-for-a-year target, so is perhaps more representative of female capability*

This is hardly relevant to the:- 2015 Tommy Godwin Record Attempt.

Nor is it Audax related?

Not sure I like the implication that riding 80 miles per day for 365 consecutive days isn't 'athletic'.

It's more than an implication.

In my opinion (and others, as evidenced in K's thread), 80mpd is more about having the determination to ride for the whole year; whereas the Godwin figure requires a pretty decent athlete who is prepared to push her/his physical limits every day.

(Some see this statement as critical of K: its not meant that way, but several people took exception to it in the main thread.)

And incidentally; K doesn't have to ride every day of the 365 in the year. She could take Sundays off, and this might well make the challenge mentally "easier" (without being an unfeasible physical challenge), at least IMO. There is no way Steve or Kurt could do their totals on a 6-day week.
