Altitude graphs

Can anyone recommend a tool for generating sensible altitude graphs from a route GPX? Gpsies gives too cramped a graph when you get to 50k long routes. Viewranger doesn't label the X axis so you've no idea the distance to get a sense of scale. Would like to be able to generate a graph that is actually useful for working out just how painful a ride is going to be.

Cheers

You could try the profile tool on GPS Visualizer. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/profile_input
It has loads of options for adjusting the scale, and whether to label the axis etc.

Load the GPX into BikeHike. Work in Km and m.

Check ‘Show Elevation Data’. Click the ‘Gradient’ radio button.

Make a note of where all the gradients are over 5%.

Click the ‘Elevation’ radio button and move the cursor along the chart to see the dist and elev at the start and finish of the climb.
