I see over on Velovision that Sam Wittingham has broken his own world record at Battle Mountain.  :D

82.33mph!  :o

Is there a 'brown trousers' smiley?

Congrats to Sam, though.  Respect.
Getting there...

Well, if you put it in a thread about a competition in Suffolk you can't blame me for missing it!  ;)

What I want to know is did our man over there get any spy pic's of the new carbon Bacchetta John Schlitter was riding.
There are some about but the photographers have been sworn to secrecy and none are on the net yet.
I've already PM'd him to ask ;D

Doesn't look as though he's the slightest bit interested in your Carbon bike Rich.
Too busy posing up and down the highway trying to impress Tanya by the look of things  ;D

I'm impressed when someone does over 60mph on the flat, but doing over 80mph!

The Mayor was obviously making used of the closed road, and getting maximum nuttiness out of his rented wheels, but still probably didn't manage to do more than double the pedal powered people!
Actually, it is rocket science.

Fastest "official" run was 180.88 mph over the 200m on Friday night, but I think Saturday morning was slightly faster - possibly a 182 or 183.  Amazingly I managed to get away with being stopped for speeding four times, due to my good looks, great personal charm and outrageous accent ;D

Apologies for the lateitude, but I have been away from teh Intarwebs for most of the trip and have been back in Blighty but three hours.  And now I'm going to the offy...

John was only there for a day.  He had three bikes strapped to the back of his motorcar, but they just looked like ordinary big-wheeled Bacchetti to me, so I didn't bother snapping 'em.  He may have had Interesting Stuffs concealed inside said motorcar, but I didn't look.

Oh well better luck next time  ;D
*Goes back to searching photo sites*

Quote from John on the Bacchetta forum,

"Just happen to be going by Battle Mountain today and thought what the heck I'll stop in and see how the speed runs are going. Sam had gone over 80mph this morning and things looked god for the next day. Sam thought it might be tough to do a good run tonight after that fast one this morning.
I decided to see if there was a room and got the last one, then took the new carbon out for a 20 mile ride and came back and waited to go out to the race course with Garrie Hill. We set up the timing gates for the 200mm and waited. First session went good with Sam leading off the second group of racers. Weather was prefect 0 wind Sam Whittington (Team Bacchetta) came flying though the 200 meters at 82.39 mph a new world record WOW!.

Now that was a perfect finish to good day to stop in on Battle Mountain. Sam says he has been riding the heck out of his Corsa S/S training for B - mountian.  He was out for warm down ride when I pulled into town".

Aha.  I did see this bike, but apart from the colour (not shiny naked carbon) it was pretty much indistinguishable from yours.

Bump!

OK, so the 2009 event doesn't get properly under way until the 14th, but who knows what the state of the InterTubes will be in rural Leftpondia, plus I'm starting the trip tomorrow.  The course has just been resurfaced (they finished yesterday!) so if there aren't at least three new records it'll be because the Wind Demons don't like us.

No Corvette this time chiz :(

Just arrived, having driven along the course on the way into town.  You could roll pastry on it, if you didn't mind a bit of dust in your pie ;D

Interview in the latest C+ (p. 31).

PS I don't quite agree with the design principles though.

Care to summarise, for those of us who are five thousand miles from the nearest copy of C+?

Qualifiers in the morning, fist record runs tomorrow night.  Watch this VVV space...

Just through with qualibobs - Sam Whittingham fastest @ 66.6 mph (the Velocity of the Beast) with a 2.5 mile run-up.  First full-course runs in about eight hours time...

Edit:  Strong wind, heavy rain, pitch waterlogged, match abandoned for today.

Bah!

Well it is about the bike and him.  ;D

The bike bit I remember well because they said that they didn't use any fluid mechanics or modelling to design it; which, in my experience, is rather counter intuitive as fluid mechanics is not an art, at least not in the classical sense of the term, but a rather diffciult mathematical problem to solve. So good guess work, but is it optimal?

I will try and do a better summary (of the rest) latter on tonight.
