I see over on Velovision that Sam Wittingham has broken his own world record at Battle Mountain.

82.33mph!

What I want to know is did our man over there get any spy pic's of the new carbon Bacchetta John Schlitter was riding.
There are some about but the photographers have been sworn to secrecy and none are on the net yet.
I've already PM'd him to ask

I'm impressed when someone does over 60mph on the flat, but doing over 80mph!

The Mayor was obviously making used of the closed road, and getting maximum nuttiness out of his rented wheels, but still probably didn't manage to do more than double the pedal powered people!

Fastest "official" run was 180.88 mph over the 200m on Friday night, but I think Saturday morning was slightly faster - possibly a 182 or 183. Amazingly I managed to get away with being stopped for speeding four times, due to my good looks, great personal charm and outrageous accent

John was only there for a day. He had three bikes strapped to the back of his motorcar, but they just looked like ordinary big-wheeled Bacchetti to me, so I didn't bother snapping 'em. He may have had Interesting Stuffs concealed inside said motorcar, but I didn't look.

Aha. I did see this bike, but apart from the colour (not shiny naked carbon) it was pretty much indistinguishable from yours.

Bump!

OK, so the 2009 event doesn't get properly under way until the 14th, but who knows what the state of the InterTubes will be in rural Leftpondia, plus I'm starting the trip tomorrow. The course has just been resurfaced (they finished yesterday!) so if there aren't at least three new records it'll be because the Wind Demons don't like us.

Just through with qualibobs - Sam Whittingham fastest @ 66.6 mph (the Velocity of the Beast) with a 2.5 mile run-up. First full-course runs in about eight hours time...

Edit: Strong wind, heavy rain, pitch waterlogged, match abandoned for today.

Well it is about the bike and him.

The bike bit I remember well because they said that they didn't use any fluid mechanics or modelling to design it; which, in my experience, is rather counter intuitive as fluid mechanics is not an art, at least not in the classical sense of the term, but a rather diffciult mathematical problem to solve. So good guess work, but is it optimal?

I will try and do a better summary (of the rest) latter on tonight.
