Author Topic: The Penshaw Punisher 110 (AAA) - 11th September - Sunderland.  (Read 6823 times)

So my first foray into organising is up in the calendar...

http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/16-480/

A 'scenic' 110km around the Wear, Derwent and Lanchester valleys and the moors above them using, mostly, quiet country roads. A mixture of commercial and information controls with food and refreshments (booze) served at HQ. Should be a good day out!

Always good to have more events in the north east of England, and it's ECE-able from Darlo.

Not far enough

  • But what I do I do because I like to do.

Don't say that cos then I'll not have an excuse to ECE yours from Sunderland.  :D

Brilliant Poster Dale, and really great to have more north east events. I have a sneaking suspicion i'll be working on that day, but would love to find a way to support you. Route checking the week before for example. Anyway - hope it is a success.

Nice a local event that is not too far to ride to ;-)

"valleys and the moors above them" does that = hilly ;-)

We've now took waaay more entries to The Penshaw Punisher than we said we would, so we will have to cap it.

Entries to the ride will close at midnight on Thursday (25th).

Cheers to all who have signed up already. ✌️

I've got my entry in!

Threatening to close the ride is a tactic I haven't yet stooped to for my 200, mind - I'm not that desperate for entries ;)

;D I need spending money for Belgium though...

130 something entries at the minute, I only planned on 20-50...

Really enjoyed that - really nice route, great workout for the legs, some fantastic views, and a late-season top-up for the silly tan.

Superbly organised :).

Good day out, got a bit windy but at least it helped me on the way back when the legs were running out of steam.  Nice to see so many cyclists out on the roads at a local event.  Excellent route, catering and organisation,

thanks Dale

And local Durham band of the early 90s: "Somebody Famous".  My favourite song was "Heironymous Bosch", written as the reult of a bet I seem to remember.

Thank you for the kind words people. I think I enjoyed it, hope everyone else did too?  ;D

Some numbers - 150 entries, 110 starters, 106 finishers. One fixed, one trike, one tandem, one Moulton. Not sure about any other oddities as I was a bit snowed under...

Interestingly (for me at least), both the first and last rider back was a Sunderland Clarion CC rider. Just shows what a great bunch of lads we are how inclusive we are as a club...  ;)
