Hang on lads and lasses a bridge or a big 'un is the largest span between two  abutments . A lot of small bridges joined together is simply a causeway, often crossing a valley with a river. There are many in the UK.

If I remember correctly the longest unsupported bridge span was or is in Japan but Wiki may disagree :D

It's the Forth Rail Bridge and I took it when I walked across it. My favourite bridge!
