Best grind of coffee for a Bodum Pebo?
« on: 17 September, 2014, 06:08:41 pm »
Had the chance of buying one of these with 40€ off. Never used one, wondering how finely ground the coffee needs to be.

Anybody know?

Fairly coarse, I would have thought.

As coarse as for a French press, do you think?

Instructions says it doesn't matter, you can use fine or coarse.

Shame about the 'tache...

Seems quite a faff to get a cup of coffee.

Ah!  Looks like the old Kona coffee maker in the back of my cupboard.

You'll need a coarse grind, pretty much like the old "percolators".

I remember seeing some Japanese variant in Tokyo many years ago.  It seemed to come with a traditionally dressed lady to fire it up at the table and pour the results.  Don't see that much anymore!

Yes, I've seen that one, ta.  Mine wasn't £56 though, it was 30€.

Trouble is, daughter "borrowed" my cone grinder a while back.

Re faff, agree. Purpose of this one is to make coffee for guests - beats a floor show and saves my good espresso for those who appreciate it (me). Pulling 8 espressos on the trot means that by the time you get to your own the first to get theirs have finished and are straining for the next one. 16 cups later the stocks look decidedly sad and my back hurts like hell.  With this thing I can make a litre at a time and pretend that because it makes disgusting noises it's good.

BTW, the article arrived today and the book of words says "coarsely ground" so I guess I have to swear at it.

Ah, cross-posted. I used to have a Kona when the world was young.  I reckon they started life in a chemistry lab.

We have an opening traditional Japanese lady lab assistant.

I've just splashed out on an electric moka pot to see if it can replace/substitute for the Gaggia I had. Much smaller footprint and less power needed, but the proof of the pudding is in the slurping.

Were you hand grinding your beans or using an Aeropress? I can't work out why your back would be hurting otherwise. I bought an Iberital grinder once I realised that the Porlex I had was a real faff for more than one shot.

Back was hurting because of a bad crash in 2002 plus a couple of hours cooking: the espresso was the last straw.
