Which VPN?
« on: 24 April, 2019, 03:35:30 pm »
We are about to head off into France for a few months and I want to get a VPN so we can stream UK TV into our caravan and also keep our private stuff safe as we'll need to do on-line banking etc.

The Caravan & Motorhome Club do a deal with Goose VPN but neither the CAMC or Goose seem to know the discount code I need, clearly its some sort of state secret  ::-)  Both organisations are trying to get me the code but I can see me losing patience shortly.

Can you luverly people recommend an alternative VPN provider?  We shall be using a variety of Apple devices and a Windows laptop.

A VPN doesn't necessarily help keep your private stuff safe. Do you trust the VPN provider? Are they logging data?
Any thing that matters should be using an encrypted connection anyway (eg HTTPS).

The TV companies know the ip addresses of the vpn exit points, so this is a lot less effective than it was  year or so back.

Based on a couple of years just finished in France, I found PureVPN quite useful especially the browser plugin for Firefox or Chrome which always worked for the iPlayer for me.

Sky and Virgin streaming is not restricted within the EU and just works without VPN.

We're NordVPN users too, didn't realise at the time but they're on Quidco too so you can get 50% of the cost back* - we signed up for the three year deal, currently available at £82.40 (£2.29 a month).

EDIT: regarding streaming, it works very smoothly with an Amazon Fire Stick...load up the NordVPN app, connect, exit, load up streaming service.
