Long Itchington Spring Camping Weekend - 8th - 10th May 2015
« on: 28 September, 2014, 09:16:06 pm »
So, this event looks like becoming a twice yearly event.   The proposed format for the next weekend is as follows:

Friday 8th:

Turn up at your leisure, pitch tent, retire to pub and partake in fish* and chip supper from the mobile chippy.

Saturday 9th.

Long Itch Diner or campsite breakfast.

Ride depart at 10:00a.m. prompt.   A pleasant country lanes ride to Rugby of 25 miles before lunch at Summersault, our favourite vegetarian restaurant.   Works out at around £10-£14 per head and is really of a very high standard.   There is a good community cafe close by for anti-vegetarians and simply for variety.

Ride back shorter way to Long Itch via Draycote Water.   Total daily mileage  approximately 38 miles.

Saturday evening meal:

Everybody pitch in with something to make a communal meal.   Menu and planning closer to the date.

Skillshare session:   Suggestions welcome.

Sunday 10th:

Long Itch diner or campsite breakfast

Cycle jumble.

Leisurely departures.

For the beer swillers:   Please note that this year in 2014 there was a surplus of beer left over from the annual beer festival held the previous weekend.   Beer was £2 a pint.   There cannot be any guarantees but of course a precedent, if not an expectation, has been set.

*  Or something less aquatic if you're not inclined towards fish!

So many things to do next year and not enough free weekends!!  :-\

What does this word 'prompt' mean?

Usually something like "after we've all stood around chatting for ten minutes, had another last-minute wee, found the missing glove and fixed the unnoticed puncture"

What is this scribble of which you speak. Indicates rather more pointy inky end down than our collective calendar would consider advisable!

Mrs Torslanda - she of the horned helmet and heavy metal breastplate - has admitted she should've given me a heavier duty sleeping mat. Scant comfort but there's a good chance my back will have recovered by next May.

If you're driving down, bring a proper li-lo inflatable mattress.  Down mats and sleeping mats are for when weight and pannier space matter.

It's in our diaries.  Given luck, this ought to be a six month old Zydrate's first camping trip  :D

Possibly.

It's about a month before my planned disappearance to Leftpondia for a Very Silly Bike Ride, so I won't know for sure until nearer the time.

A lot will depend on how much of my fitness I've managed to regain by then too ...

Good date.  You've managed to just miss Mrs. B's birthday this time and it is also a weekend of the correct flavour.

Erm, it's in the diary, but that's all I can promise at this time.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

You can have both (the compromise being warmth)...

If the campsite has some suitable grass I could demonstrate the use and maintenance of the Austrian sythe; the green alternative to a strimmer.

Can I register interest - it does depend on:

  • Sorting out transport
  • Outcome of surgery
  • Predicted arrival time of grand-sprog.

 :-\
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

All the best for the surgery, WJ. Hopefully we won't have to deploy JBBs scythe (although maybe it could be a useful threat for the cockerel?  :demon: )

I've acquired an Alpkit Rig 3.5 - no poles yet, until I know what I'm after - and would be interested in a bit of experimental tarp origami and trying out possibilities for making tent awnings.

Saturday evening meal:

Everybody pitch in with something to make a communal meal.   Menu and planning closer to the date.

Mikelcu's already started on the planning and is refining details of coordinating food preparation with doing the ride down again  ;D

Registering an interest. Have not run it past Mrs. Wow yet. If she comes, it will be the Very Large Tent Indeed.
