Offset rear wheel on a Trice
« on: 24 June, 2017, 08:36:02 am »
I am awaiting the delivery of a Bafang 15W mid drive motor for my ICE Q trike and I have a 20" wheel with an Alfine 11.

The rear cog will be in-line but the tyre sits off centre in the rear fork of the Q.
Am I right in assuming that it doesn't matter?

The rear forks of an ICE trike are asymmetrical.
With a nine speed cassette on the back hub, the wheel has no dish.
This means that with an IHG hub, the wheel will have to be built asymmetrical with a reverse dish.
That's how my Rohloff wheel was built.

Downside of a symmetrical back wheel .........
Tyre wear ?? may be increased.  Tyre size ?? may not be able to fit the fattest tyres (50-406) without rubbing frame. Refit after puncture ?? you may not be 100% square in back forks, making it slightly harder.

Thanks Tigerbiten

At the moment the back wheel has a Marathon on and is clearing.
Once I've tried the motor, and I like it, I'll have an Alfine 8 laced up correctly

An offset rear wheel should not cause any problems, Windcheetahs have an offset wheel by design and from what I have been told work just fine.
