Help me identify a film from scant memories
« on: 13 October, 2017, 11:22:02 am »
I'd really like to locate and re watch this film. I remember some bits of it but not very much . perhaps there's a film buff on here who's seen it and remembers it .

It was either late 90s or early to mid 2000s I think
It was definitely a british film
I'm sure it had either david tennant . James mcavoy . but not 100%

Okay I seem to recall it was about a couple of down on their luck students who may or may not have been struggling for money/employment . they decided to join an escort agency and started working . I think there was a "date" or "dates" with older ladies and perhaps biscuits etc . the main character then meets a girl . possibly through the escort agency ( not sure ) and they obviously end up falling in love and getting together . it was all very sweet but had some great awkward moments and funny bits

That's all I've got I'm afraid

Thanks in advance

My Google fu says "The Gigolos"  released in 2005:

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Definitely not that . it was definitely a comedy or Rom com . the two lads were quite young . very inexperienced and we're just doing it as a way to make some money

Glancing through those two actors' filmographies on IMDB didn't throw up any likely candidates, but might a look there jog your memory?

I looked at both the filmographies and now I've got doubts as to whether either of them were actually in the film . I'm normally encyclopedic when it comes to stuff like this so its really bothering me

There are sites that let you search for a movie by description

try 'identify a film' on google for suggestions

This is a useful thread.  Can anyone shine a light into this one?  It's been nagging at my brain for the last 25 years and my recollect is becoming patchy.

The main character is a cheery lady leaving for a holiday or something, and she's wearing a red polka dot dress.  She boards a propellor-driven passenger aircraft, and chats happily with fellow passengers.  En route, the plane is struck by lighting and crashes over somewhere remote, like Borneo.  All but her and perhaps one other are killed, and most of the film is about her quest to return to civilization.  I can only remember one other scene, where she's in the company of another and has been bitten on her back by jungle or swamp-dwelling insects.  Her friend helps extract larvae from her back.

As far as I remember, she successfully gets home.

There are many similarities with Seven in Darkness; the look and feel especially, but the details don't seem right.

It's not Miracles Still Happen is it? Based on the survival of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LANSA_Flight_508.

It just sounded familiar because I was just reading about that crash the other day.

By jove, I think you're right!  Had a look on YouTube and I'm amazed how accurate I was for the snatches of film that I remembered.

The next question is, when did they show it on TV, and what was a probably-10 year-old doing watching the whole thing?

Showing my age... I remember being fascinated as a young girl reading that immediately after it happened. The incident where she encountered the other passengers still strapped into  their seats has lived with me ever since.
